Hinton's Annual Blind Tasting Challenge (Bin 75): Garnet, good clarity; lots of vanilla on the nose, plum, raspberry, char, cherry pie filling from a can; soft tannin, oaky, vanilla, blueberry, lighter body, decent acid; leaning towards Pinot in style but not at all.

Spicy, natty, juicy, mushroom, leather, tea, floral, spritzy and sharp acids on the palate, a fun and easy going red with decent complexity but toes the line a little close to the natural side that can go into the bad end of the spectrum but no issues yet.

Wines from America's Northwest (Bin 75): Very light rose lake; perfumed and floral with lots of fresh rose, a little stem, and youthful bubblegum grapiness in the back; palate is very light with strawberry, cranberry, and soft cherry; fairly simple but food friendly.
White
Wine at the Lake (Lake Lanier, GA): Very green in color; initially the wines seems very sweet almost cloying, either the wine opened up or my palate calibrated, this shows some sweet yellow fruit, sweet and fresh green pear, spiced pear, floral, candied ginger, an incredible creaminess to the texture, acid is soft and not shrill while the wine still shows good freshness, lots of slate, lots of class and obvious skill here, need to get more.

Fairly boring on day one but on day 2 this shows less green and more white/yellow fruit, an energetic core still wound tightly supported by medium plus viscosity and waves of mineral, peach nectarine and sour plum dominate with a little underripe pineapple ginger and tart acids; while tasty this should be delicious in 5 more years.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Alpharetta, GA): Dark opaque core with garnet rim; Bordeaux nose with cigar, tobacco, weedy, stones, gravel, earth, black currant, rich darker fruit, taut, green pepper, slight funk, good structure, in the secondary/tertiary, mushroom, some bitter chocolate, slight Bretty leather and sweaty animal note adds nice complexity rather than taking hold of the wine, very good balance, violets on the finish, slight medicinal licorice finish; very good, great vintage; fooled most as Bordeaux.

VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy): Deep maroon, lighter rim; fresh and dried dark fruit on the nose, spice, clove, plum skin; ripe fruit on the palate, juicy, silky tannin, alcohol stands out a bit due to warmer serving temperature (I believe the AC was not working where they were located).
Red
VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy): Bright reddish purple, see through; served a bit warm, tart red and dark fruit, lighter density, herbs, vegetal, a bit of dried leaves, very complex nose for entry level wine; perfumed, purple flowers, plum, cherry, really juicy, red fruit; drinks really well for level.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75): Black core with garnet rim; blueberry, fresh blackberry, spice, sweet, young, very fresh nose; youthful on palate, sweet fruit, plum, primary, soft tannin, a bit shallow; a really well stored example owned since release, amazingly this bottle needed another 10 years the way it drank tonight, very new and New World like in tonight's tasting, NR.

If I had tasted this blind I would have struggled calling this as Germany- not just grape variety- but classically Burgundy inspired and well rendered example, fruit is restrained and stays in the lemon and stone fruit spectrum, reductive but not overblown, crisp acids, a suggestion of oak and well judged oak make this a very nice value too.
Red
Really happy with this, on the tarter red fruit spectrum, simpler and not the most generous but great QPR which is better than most Bourgogne Rouge at higher prices, really well made and held up a week in the fridge.
White
Lighter yellow; intriguing white flower, honeysuckle, slight prickle, pear, yellow/white fruit, fennel; very appealing texture, soft acid, savory, slight sour beer note, honey, waxy, almost peach, keeps unfurling new flavors; don't want to spit this.

Pinkish red, very translucent, little extraction; menthol, roses, cherry, strawberry, licorice, feminine style; extremely soft on the palate, with lots of fruit, youthful; overall confusingly soft, sexy, polished, and feminine for Cannubi which makes aromatic and masculine Barolo, I do think that this will go dumb in the near future and emerge from its slumber with a little more muscle.

Crisp, clean and very food friendly. No oak or 100% malo. Think a ripe vintage of Pouilly Fuisse without the minerality.

The nose gives the idea that this will be rich, but the palate is zingy and very fresh. Candied lemon and dill pickle vinegariness on the finish. Usually an underwhelming varietal, but this is worthy of the price. Food friendly.

Again, very fresh and clean as all of the whites, but this had some good richness. Attractive lime and melon flavors. Maybe a little RS, but not enough turn anyone off. Above average when compared to other Oregon Pinot Gris.

Definitely a Burgundian styled pinot with a great taut texture and sour red cherry. Pommard clones are used and you could see a nice comparison between the climat and this bottling. I would let this sit for a couple years due to the texture. Could be a ringer in a blind tasting.

Pink; intensely floral and tart on the nose, canned peaches, sweet and not as much acid on the palate which made this slightly cloying.

Elegance is the name here. Pure pinot with seductive red fruit that envelops every part of the palate. Slight candy but this should be tamed with a year or two in bottle. Very good balance and feminine structure that makes this very drinkable.

A knockout nose of complex sweet fruit that's candied but balanced out by a slight bitter note. On the palate this hits up front and fades fast with an alcoholic note.

You have to applaud the producer for making pinots...not syrah or rhone blends labeled as pinot. This to me is very Burgundian; light extraction, elegant red fruit, and good acid. A brief beam of cherry in the midpalate reiterates that comparison. As tasty as this is it would be hard to compare this to a good Bourgogne.

Tuesday Night Double Blind <$40 (Alpharetta, GA): See through duller ruby, pale rim; pine, bit of brulee, cherry pit, sweeter, simpler; ok, needs to settle a little bit, no familiarity with producer.

Very fine bubbles; toasty nose at first but digging a bit more reveals a chalky almost shrimp shell character, almond, rich golden apple, and light lemon; medium bodied with good drive and focus, dry, crisp, almost red fruit notes, nice on palate showing good complexity; still quite young but really good.
