Red - Fortified
7th release of this
Haunting aroma, the nose is quite spectacular, like old leather bound books with dried flowers. Really remarkable
Palate doesn't quite match up to it though it's still impressive with a piercing freshness, extraordinary intensity and a walnut finish that goes on for a good ten minutes. I can still taste this 3 days later.
Red - Fortified
30 year old wine
Green brown colour
Big volatile acidity on the nose, rancio with that peach pit earthy/ nutty quality
Intense and earthy, walnuts with a oloroso type earthy quality.
Big funky sort of wine.
Red - Fortified
20 yo twany
Big rancio notes on the nose, dried nuts and dried apricot quite a bit of VA.
Super tangy on the palate, orange peel, great freshness.
Long walnutty finish
Very good, My favourite of the Penfolds tawnies
Blend of wines dating back to the 1960s.
Red - Fortified
Very distinctive nose which I couldn't quite put my finger/ nostril on. Something like a peach kernel with an earthy and also floral quality,
Intense acidity on the palate, apricots, brown sugar, raisin and toffee. Coming back to this after trying older tawnies and that stone fruit note was particularly vivid, like a viognier.
Really nothing at all like Port or any other fortified wine.

Red
Dark fruit, fragrant , violets, supple, touch of vanilla, nice low alcohol. Subtle and elegant. Drinking well now though still young.
White
Green colour, touch of orange,
Oranges, orange peel, marzipan, rich and nutty nose,
Full body, apricots, orange peel, lowish acidity made up for my a salty tangy quality, almonds.
Rich and long.
White - Sparkling

Ripe nose, peaches, lemon and oranges,
Fresh fruit on the palate, stone fruit and apples, nice and ripe, with yeasty and nutty notes on the finish.
Good balance.
Really impeccable ESW, always a favourite but seems particularly good in this vintage.
Rosé - Sparkling
Majors on crunchy fruit, cranberry, red cherry with a touch of herbal/ floral notes. Fine bubbles. Good balance with a little meaty yeastiness on the finish.
Good fruit-driven style. Not massively complex.
Rosé
11.39 % vol.
Grape(s) 100 % Pinot Meunier. Wine made at Tillingham
Fresh and saline on he nose
Very light on the palate but there's nice fruit and a certain creaminess to it.
Red
Essex and Suffolk grapes
Spicy nose, fark fruit
Savoury and spicy, firm tannins but there's good ripeness underneath and a long finish.
Needs time in bottle to open up but potentially good. Probably wouldn't keep for a long time though.

Gamay, pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay

Very pale colour,
firm tannins, not much fruit, Hard work.
White
Made at Tillingham in East Sussex
Apples on those, even some funky cider (though not too much so)
Spicy, cinnamon, spiced apples, a touch volatile, plenty of ripeness,
It's a natural style but not excessively so.
Fun
White
Grapes grown in Crouch Valley
12.14%, made at Tillingham,
Green apples on the nose, floral,
Nice texture, good ripeness, orchard fruit, floral, some length.
This is good. Sort of Alto Adige style.
Red
Grapes from Essex and Suffolk
12.6% some whole bunch here
Stalky nose with some very nice ripe strawberry fruit,
Cranberry on the palate, quite tannic, spicy and herbal, does walk the line a bit with the whole bunch, shades of Loire cab franc, but on the whole it works. Needs time.

Biodynamic grapes. Made at Tillingham
Very aromatic nose, smells sweet, peaches, cumin
Fresh and clean, earthy and spicy. Tastes off-dry though fermented fully, I think.
Lots going on. Quite nice.

2019 Walgate Blanc de Noirs England Champagne Blend
"Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir grapes were pressed to two oak
barrels where they were fermented with wild yeast and aged
on lees for ten months. After thirty months on lees, the wine
was disgorged and dosage of ten grams was added to the wine."
Fruit from Kent and Essex. Half pinot half meunier. Wine made at Tillingham.
Spicy nose, woody with bruised apples
Very fine bubbles, less sparkling than most trad method,
Spicy, smooth, apples. Lots going on here, very long.
Good champagne-style sparkling wine, a little bit wild but not wacky.

Rosé
I was really impressed by this. I'm usually a little sceptical of very pale English rose but this works - great ripe cherry and strawberry fruit, nice leafty herbal quality and a round ripe texture.
It's £25. They're going for the high end Provence market and it works.
White
Limes on the nose, lime juice and a little rind with a touch of vanilla
High acidity, as you might expect, zingy lime, almost Australian riesling. Then creamy with nutty oak.
Difficult vintage but this is good, only a touch of dilution compared with 2022 gives the game away.
Red
Red colour, pale
Ripe cherries in the nose. Lots of spice and leather.
Refreshing in the palate, cherries, orange peel and and cinnamon. This has a really nice sweetness about it combined with some reds chianti bite. But it does lack intensity. It’s very drinkable but a little dilute. Drink now.
Rosé
Pale pink colour
Strawberry fool and red cherry, creamy and a touch herbal,
Sweet fruit on the palate, crunchy, fresh and orangey. Touch of spice.
Very nice. Don’t serve too cold as there’s plenty going on here.
Red
Pale rim, red colur
Lovely nose cherries, leafy forest floor notes, orange peel and spice
Tannins soft and open, red fruit, lots of spice. Long
Drinking well now.
Very good

Red
Big ripe nose
Firm tannin, great fruit, manages to be both opulent and trad at the same time. Hard to argue with this for £20.

Very pale red colour
Light body, lovely fragrance, but the tannins just shut it down at the moment. Needs time.
Red
Delicate floral nose
Sweet ripe fruit, tannins firm (obviously) but open and allowing lots of pleasure. Long, complex.
This is really very good and drinking superbly now. For the money, £35, it's a bit of a bargain considering where Barolo prices are going.
Red
2019 Berry Bros. & Rudd Chianti Classico Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese (view label images)
Spicy nose, red fruit
Firm tannin, nice chew to it, leather and bittersweet cherry with a floral perfumed quality and a long mineral finish.
Great Chianti and not expensive at £18.50.
Red
2012 Mas de Daumas Gassac Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Bright red colour, looks young
Nose is absolute pure claret - that earthiness, pencil shaving, plums.
Tannins now soft and texture is supple with the underlying ripeness of fruit showing. Notes of tobacco and toasted oak on the finish.
This is in a great place. MDG can be a little austere if you catch it at the wrong time but not this bottle.
Red
Zingy floral nose
Ripe fruit on the palate, cherries and cranberries, floral with soft tannin and a fresh acidity.
V. good.

Red
Floral, red fruit on the nose, heady and perfumed,
ripe fruit on the palate, raspberries and brambles with a herbal edge, supple tannins, fragrant with violets.
Love Clos de Papes, amazing how they make a 15% wine dance like this. WOrth keeping but hard to resist now.

Red
Nose a little reduction but plenty of red fruit
Lean, a little austere, with some tannin, great purity.
Long. Worth decanting to open up, I think.
Red
1995 Château Gruaud Larose St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Amazingly considering this is nearly 30 years old there's no bricking at all.
What a nose - stewed fruit, earthy, pencil shaving, tobacco - classic old claret.
Still some big tannins here, grippy but ripe, plenty of dark fruit. Long. This is still young. Not going anywhere. and only 12.5%, love an old Bordeaux.

What a nose - tobacco, leather and blackcurrant fruit.
Firm tannins and stewed fruit on the palate. Lots to enjoy but it does taste like it's drying out a bit.

Made by Branaire-Ducru
Spicy nose, lots of dark fruit
Firm tannin with a long finish.
Expected something a bit more from this. I think it's just ridiculously young and needs at least five years to open up.
Red
Big crazy nose, can't put my finger/ nose on the smell, it's really spicy.
Firm, meaty and serious on the palate. Black fruit and mineral. So different to the crunchy light Saumurs I am used to. Needs time.

REd colour, touch of fading at the rim,
wild strawberries and spice on the nose
Light body, not showing a lot of fruit but with firm tannins.
Lovely nose but not showing that well.
Red
Ripe nose, raspberries, vivid fruit,
Light and supple on the palate, floral red fruit, touch of tannin with a certain nuttiness.
Pretty light wine but not cheap at £35.
Red
Bright purple colour - so vivid considering this is now 4 years olds
Dark fruit, damson on the nose
Firm and meaty on the palate, brambles and damson.
Needs time, I think.
Red
Raspberries, nice aroma
Some spice, crunchy red fruit and a palate tannin, soft and pretty.
Enjoyable and unpretentious.
Red
Touch fading at the trim
Meaty herbal nose with red fruit,
perfumed and floral, supple tannins, fresh and long.
This is in a great place. A point.
Red
Deep colour
Fresh nose, red fruit with a little reduction,
Lovely freshness here, red cherries, floral, light but not short of flavour, mineral.
This is wonderful, joyful even.
Red
Dark fruit, spicy and herbal,
Very refreshing with red cherries and a little rocky minerality.
Red
Perfumed - really vibrant cherry blossom on the nose.
Light and perfectly ripe on the palate, a little ethereal, fades quickly but it's good while it lasts.
One to drink now. This was a lousy vintage in England, almost no summer, so it's miraculous that someone managed to make a red this good.

Rosé
Deep colour, darker than the English red on the next table.
Crunchy ripe fruit on the palate, perfumed,
Full body, lots of bittersweet cherries. Real red wine character, tangy, imagine this with pork chops on the BBQ.
Little bit of heat on the end from the 14.5% ABV.
White - Off-dry
Smells gorgeous, toasty, green apples - wow!
Stone fruit on the palate, peaches and apricots, really doesn't taste that sweet, so well balanced. Acidity not that high for riesling, or so it seems. Might just be very balanced.
Extremely long.
White
Deep colour
Smells like skin contact wine - but I don't think it is
Fresh and appley on the palate with herbal notes. Creamy texture and some length.
White
Fresh, floral, lemony nose
Really gorgeous, limes and a certain mineral saltiness followed by nuts. Long finish. Really fresh and zingy.
14% but you don't really notice it.

White
Apple blossom on the nose, Floral,
Very very fresh, lemons and pears.
Long
Blend of rolle, grenache blanc and viognier but doesn't have the fatness that I normally associate with the latter two varieties.
White
Wild flowers, herbs, peaches and a little marzipan on the nose,
Full, ripe and creamy, apple with lemon peel.
Pure pleasure.
Nice to see ABV under control at 13.5%
£15 so pretty godo value.
White
This isn't Pouilly Fume - it's Vin de France - producer got fed up with AOC rules, apparently.
Rich nose, apples, almost smells a bit like a sparkling wine,
Lean, high acidity but good ripeness here. It's a little like a Chenin Blanc. Nutty with an oxiadtive edge. A little bit wild but not cidery or anything like that.
Lovely wine.
White
This is actually a vin de France and producer got fed up with AOC tules
Wild flowers on the nose, bruised apples, orange peel
Textured with some tannin, but not funky, some herbal notes.
Great fun but it's very expensive at £40.
