4/28/24, 2:19 PM - So you think a 6-8 hour double decant would wake this baby from slumber?
12/26/23, 8:50 AM - I have read that this wine needs anywhere from 10-15 years from vintage date to be in a prime opening window. It might be that it was just too young and not ready.
12/3/22, 1:20 PM - sachsen get 6?
2/9/22, 1:45 PM - Appreciate your note here, which helped me with my decision--just ordered the 2015 from Envoyer.
12/30/21, 2:38 PM - So you are saying I should hold on to my bottles until 2035 before opening?
9/14/21, 10:30 PM - When was this initially released? I just got the offer notice today.Glad to hear that is showed so well.
7/11/21, 5:24 PM - Frank, are you suggesting that it is time to drink this up because you don't think the window through 2028 is accurate? Or are you just looking forward to trying the next vintage when it becomes available?
7/3/21, 2:54 PM - <assuming this is the Beachfan that I know> You, sir, have the palate of a YAK!Long time no see!!!
7/3/21, 3:25 PM - Oh, nowhere near as enjoyable as a nice, thick, tasty Saxum. We've been in the 90-91 range fairly consistently though. Have gone through a few cases of this already...
5/23/21, 5:02 PM - Baby Killer!
5/17/21, 8:52 AM - The way I see it is that if it is drinking well, it has been properly aged! I too have a hard time keeping hands off the G2 bottlings.
4/25/21, 9:03 PM - So if the OTHER diners all liked it but you thought it was shut down, is it time to wear your favorite "I Like Pinot" t-shirt again? :-)
3/31/21, 1:45 PM - Did this improve after a couple of days?
3/31/21, 2:13 PM - Thanks. Yeah, I'm not opening too many young red wines. and when I do, they wouldn't be Napa cabernets. Just wondering if you could track any improvement over time, which suggests ageability.
3/19/21, 6:41 AM - Mel,I have only been on the Tempier Bandol Rose bandwagon for 4 years, and can say that these bottles age very well and are much more distinguishable after a couple of years. Looking forward to having my last 2016 and starting on my 2017s this summer. 2018s will not be touched until next year at earliest at our place.
3/8/21, 12:42 PM - Heck of a review! Personally, I keep these in their own box, so don't have to worry about bottle size, just where to fit the box (though I wouldn't mind a visit from Ty's crew letting me know I am the latest winner of Wine Cellar Edition!
2/4/21, 10:20 PM - 11 bottles left is an amazing allocation. I have always found G2 to be about the most accessible of the Saxum wines. LOVE G2 for earlier drinking, so my lesser allocation would never allow more than 5-7 years from vintage. Enjoy!!!
12/27/20, 8:57 AM - We opened this specific bottle just this weekend, but gave it 4.5 hours in a decanter before starting. I didn't take an initial sip upon opening, but based upon the nose, would imagine it being too tightly wound for my tastes at the time. If you have a chance (i.e. extra bottles), you might want to check on these getting an extended amount of air. Truly an incredible wine...
12/6/20, 11:50 AM - Two different bottles, or improvement after day 1? My experience is that the Bookers always seem to need more time than the others--more time or a lot more air. Going to be a number of years before I start into my '17s (except the G2, which is accessible much earlier).
11/26/20, 8:35 AM - Have to imagine that there is serious upside potential here given that the wine was bottled just 2.5 weeks ago. Will be interesting to see how this shows in say 6 months or 5 years.
11/21/20, 12:27 PM - Thanks for taking one for the team! Is your score based upon 2-3 years of time to settle, or is it really that good right now?
11/18/20, 7:41 AM - Keep in mind though that this is a recently released cab, and that how it shows now should be completely different than in 10 or even 20 years.
11/15/20, 7:41 PM - OUCH, that's a young one. Easy to take the advice and sock away for a few years before trying. Thanks for taking one for the team!
10/5/20, 8:44 PM - While I'm somewhat disheartened to see your comments about our wedding champagne, I have to agree that Hebrart and Vilmart (along with Dethune, Paul Bara, Plilipponnat, etc) are incredible wines at their rpice-point!
8/19/20, 9:44 PM - Sorry to hear. Drank my last bottle in 2017. I HATE pruney wines, and surprising for a pinot. Maybe the grapes were left too long on the vines?
8/8/20, 4:09 PM - Glad to see your notes again, Charlie!
7/3/20, 12:03 PM - Since when are you a lover of big fruit in wine?
6/21/20, 8:50 AM - A bit young to pop IMHO. Did you decant this for 6 hours ahead of time? Time is your friend with these wines, and I think your 5-year wait is a great idea.
1/24/20, 7:03 PM - Good to see you post again--miss your notes on eRP. Drink well and prosper!
1/13/20, 6:43 AM - Was this an Envoyer purchase? Just curious this is where I picked up my as of yet unopened bottle.
1/11/20, 5:03 PM - Grrrr! Have two of these myself--not thrilled with the prune notes.
1/11/20, 5:37 PM - Open all month except for a play on the 17th.
12/6/19, 5:12 PM - Was this a pop-n-pour?
10/27/19, 12:06 PM - I just placed an order for this last week, so very much looking forward to trying. What do you think the drinking window is for this wine?
8/24/19, 4:20 PM - Thanks for the note--have one purchased through a friend on release. Sooner rather than later!
6/29/19, 6:46 PM - Reading through the past reviews on this wine, I realize this is very close to how I felt about this upon opening--something seemed off, but completely blew off. Years later...
2/5/19, 12:53 PM - What do you think is the optimal serving temperature for this?
1/18/19, 10:31 AM - Could not agree more about how long Saxum needs. The last of my '05s recently were my favorite of all time! Considered bringing this to Charcoal with dinner this weekend, but something tells me to either decant for 3 hours, or let is sleep another couple of years.
10/24/18, 12:21 PM - With the amount of time you suggest that it needs to open up, could you share an opinion on the drinking window for this wine? CT 2018-2023 seems a little early and short to me is all.
7/7/18, 12:23 PM - Almost time to open another...the last one I had was oxidized! Will wait on it to bring on our next trip into the area! ;-)
6/25/18, 11:52 AM - How long was this decanted (if at all)?
6/21/18, 9:54 AM - That's what I get for not waiting until the next morning to type my comments...bianco, BIANCO. Good catch.
4/21/18, 12:59 PM - So....the 100 point rating....fake news?
12/2/17, 12:07 PM - Jeff(?), Do you think the difference between 750 and magnum might be due to how much more slowly wine magnum might age? I've never thought that the EnRoute pinots had enough acidity to make for longer aging. Ron
12/28/16, 11:34 AM - Saxum fruit profiles are quite opulent. Had a 2005 Booker mag on Christmas that was in a decanter for over an hour before serving. Quite nice and young still--my palate says 7-10 years past vintage is optimal for a Saxum out of a 750.
4/7/16, 10:42 AM - Perhaps a lower alcohol wine would serve your palate better? Not opening my SQN for you, buddy!!!
10/22/15, 5:40 PM - How much "air-time" did it take to finally open up? Was there any formal decanting or PnP?
8/10/15, 6:21 AM - I know exactly what you are talking about. I think something blows off after about an our of decanting though--truly a very pleasing wine at that point. Definitely decant for 60 mins next time and see.
11/19/14, 11:04 AM - How long would you recommend a decant on this? T.I.A.
10/10/14, 11:13 AM - Glad to see that this was able to make it into your "good graces" category after the prior year's experience.
4/24/14, 2:08 PM - Just going through old TNs. Glad you liked this one much better! Some of your TNs are pretty funny...keep them up (and never buy from Benchmark again).
1/4/13, 11:33 PM - It was pretty nasty when the bottle was opened...I'm a firm believer in allowing a wine to evolve with air. Sometimes I win, and sometimes I lose. Oh well...won with this one after a proper decant.
1/2/13, 5:42 PM - I certainly have higher hopes for the wine (haven't tried it yet), but thank you for the sense of humor despite your disdain for the wine.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
