Feels quite young and fresh, I was suspecting more nutty and developed character. No hurry to drink this.

A decent Côte-Rôtie, but I feel the style of Guigal is somewhat hiding a bit of the roughness of the appellation. The wine is starting to get more secondary aromas, but it is still young. On day two the acidity and structure is coming more to the front of the wine. If you like Cote-Rôtie, there is no hurry. If you like Guigal, you will enjoy the wine now.

The color is show signs of development. But the wine is still young and fresh, with aromas of yellow fruit, rocks and a hint of oak. Not yet in the right spot for me, I would like the wine to get more deep and complex, and I belive it will in 2-5 years time. Still, nice to drink now.

A lot better than the previous bottle. More dark berries, spices and grip. The wine was holding up very well over the meal, not at all fading as the last bottle. In a nice place and probably at peak, given a good cork. Life is a lottery..

My last of 3. Still a bit dominated by oak. The oak and oxidative notes are too much. Should have been some more fruit and mineral stuff here. Screw caps next, Szepsy Jr. ?

Tired wine, with slightly oksidative fruit. Dry, losing fruit and some bouillon. Disappointing.

First bottle was totally oxidized. This one seems luckier with the cork, but the wine is slightly over the top. I guess bottles with pristine corks was on top mabye 3-5 years ago. Good to see Szepsy has switched to glass stoppers. The fruit has faded, there is some apricot, but an oxidized apple character is dominating. A light and airy minerality that is less pungent than Furmint Úrágya.

Deep garnet color with a purple hue. Open, fruity and intense. Violets, plum, cassis and licorice. In the mouth the wine is quite soft and approachable, with an acidity that keeps the wine vibrating and alive. Tannins are integrated and well rounded. Plums and dark fruits. Nice to drink now, but there is concentration and power to age this wine at least 8-10 years. Good typicality of Bordeaux and merlot, but also different and more fresh and open. The bottle went down fast, and that is a good sign.

Last bottle. And this one was sound and rather fresh. There has been a couple of oxidized bottles. Damn natural cork! Rich but also quite mineral and stony on the nose. Yellow fruit, nice big mouth feel and that Tokaji volcanic stone aroma to die for. The wine is past it's best, and was probably better 3-4 years ago.

This is a gorgeous Côte-Rôtie, just the way they should be. A wine of great integrity, but restrained and northern. Starting to open up to secondary aromas. There are both fruit and structure for 5-7 years of further cellaring. Nice to drink now with a lot of fruit left.

A bit subdued and shy. Typically notes of clay and volcanic rocks like ryolite. Yellow fruits and apricot on the nose. Full bodied and broad phenolic attack. Nice, but not quite balansed. Considering the price payed on Bortarsasag in Budapest in 2014, this is still a great bottle of wine for the money. 14% alcohol and 2986 bottles produced.

Lactic and oaky upon opening. This quickly faded and the wine got tighter and fresher. Still quite sweet aromas and rather Tinta Roriz dominated. Also dark berries. Mature wine showing soft tannins and barely enough acidity. Hedonistic experience, perhaps a more interesing wine in less hot years. Nice spiciness showing stalks and licorice.

Drinks well now, and I would not wait too long to pop this wine.

On the darker side of burgundy red. Alluring and perfumed nose. Some sweet red fruit and spice. Fresh and balanced in the mouth. But lacks stuffing and fades rather fast in the glass. Would drink this within one-two years.

Youthful straw colour. Some maturity in the aromas. Yellow fruits and light petrol. Promising. A little subdued nose. The palate is better. Lovely fat fruit, balanced by gracing acidity. Drinks well noe, but will probably keep for two more years.

My first bottle from this vintage. The color is towards garnet, developed with hints of browning. Opaque but not dense. Showing nice typical aromas of a Côte-Rôtie, like dark berries and bacon. There is a good dollop of oak still covering this wine. The fruit is still sweet, but not warm and chunky. The wine pays hommage to it's homeland in the windswept northern corner of the Rhône. Balanced in the mouth, the acidity is nice. Yet the wine is not as transparent and naked like some examples from small producers. But this style is nice too. The wine is really worth opening now, but I think another 2-5 years in a good cellar would not do any harm.

I'll echo my note from 2019. This bottle had a promising yellow colour, not the more orange I was afraid of. Still, the wine is now over the top and there are merely bones left. The fruit has dried out, and the acidity is running the show. Yet there is interest and residues of the volcanic minerality this wine once possessed.

Rather developed color, deep straw with hints of green. A little shy at first, but clearly a good showing. Aromas of apples, pressed through time. With air the wine delivers some nicely integrated aromas of petrol and volcanic stones. In the mouth the wine is quite broad for a riesling, but coming together in the acid kick at the end. Love this wine at this point, so I would not wait too long to pop the next bottle. Great QPR. This is gold for the price of molybdenum.

Colour is still not alarmingly. Deep straw. The nose shows starting signs of decay with some oxidative apples. Still vigour left, though. Oak, peat and a decent girth. Glycerol and body. Structure, but not from obvious high acidity. Still good, but drink up.

Cosistent with my note in 2014. Another pristine bottle, and no sign of a warm year or old age. This is classic Chablis.

Drinking quite well now, but will surely hold and possibly improve for 5-10 years nore. Fresh black fruits, hints of bacon, iron and tomato. Good acidity holding things together. Fine grained tannins that stay in the background. Great wine, the effortlessly dances in it´s own glory.

I was a little worried that I had waited too long to pop this one, as a bottle of 07 was showing signs of age. This one on the other hand is just majestic! Sitting confident in the glas and sharing its utter perfection with ease. Mature but not losing any of the energy of its youth. Balanced and a true enjoyment to drink. The bottle was soon empty. Some nice aromas of raspberries and yellow fruits, along with interwoven volcanic stones. Full bodied, large wine, but the mature acidity keeps things in place. Like the few truly great wines I have tried, this one feels like a complete wine.

Deep yellow with orange hues. Broad and salty-sweet volcanic rocky aromas emerge at first. Then some licorice, apples and limoncelli. Full bodied wine with moderate but sufficient acidity. Ripe lemons and slightly oxidized apples. Balanced and nice. Mature and ready for business.

The color is deep straw yellow. Delightful on the nose, with a broad aroma of cool yellow fruit. Layers upon layers of ripe lemon, smoke and flint. Smooth texture, good acidity over a broad base of yellow fruits. Slightly tickling smoky sensations comes along towards the finish. Hints of oxidized apples. The wine has lost a little of that fat volcanic feel and fruit. Tighter and more bones now. But still a great wine.Tried from Zalto Denk´art Burgundy glas. My score on this wine from 2016 seems a bit conservative now. Anyone with a time machine, is advised to travel back to 2016 and immerse in this wine. And give it a proper tasting chant and a high score!

A big wine. Obviously made from very ripe grapes, with 14,2% alcohol. Rounded smell of petrol, yellow fruit and volcanic stones. Full bodied riesling, with an integrated acidity. A serious wine, but leaves me perhaps with more awe than pure pleasure. Difficult to say if the acidity will be more outspoken with more time. I think maybe its time to try if you have a few.

Both nose and palate shows textbook pure oyster! Stony, salty and there is a sprinkle of lemon as well. On the palate the wine displays nice concentration and crisp acidity, but the wine is a little short on fruit. Still a classic Chablis. I think this is a wine to drink within relatively short time.

Light gold. Some murkiness at first, but it blew off. A salient note of oysters, backed up by mature lemon. A nice Chablis coming of age. Not so much fruit left. A little hollow, perhaps lacking concentration.

Last bottle of 3. This showed the best. Nice balance between fruit and earthiness. Developed tannins, good acidity and delicate pinosity. A little rustic, still. This bottle was holding up well, but I would not advise more cellaring.

Light golden color. Rich, yet fresh aromas emerge from the glas. Ripe lemon, acidic volcanic rock, flint and some apricot. Medium bodied wine, good concentration. Very furmint, very volcanic. Nice smooth texture. Ripe acidity in the finish. Great stuff. At peak, I guess.

Serious Syrah. Meaty and secondary and starting to coming in to a great face. Not sure if it has enough stuffing/fruit to last very long. Liked it a lot at this stage where the fruit is still holding pole position. Dark sour berries, meat juice, some mushroom and forest floor. Firm tannins.

Golden color. Nice Tokaji aromas of sweet canned apricot, as well as fresh white apricots. Almost a salty stoniness from the volcanic soil. Fresh, dry and full bodied white wine. Smooth texture, mineralty is also showing on the palate. Long lingering finish with developed and supportive acidity. This is a gorgeous wine, and probably at its peak.

A light Hermitage, but with a core of integrity. Aromas of dark and red berries, but the palate has more of the sour red berries. Light, polished tannins swiping up the finish and holding the wine together. Decanted for two hours, but this did not make much impact. Yet I think this i drink now, there is not enough fruit to keep it going for much more time i the cellar.

Hmm. Dark color and seems to extracted and matured in a "modernist" way. Smooth sweet tannins, but the Vigna Rionda seems a little lost in the (winemaking)way. Still a pleasant bottle of wine.

Dark burgundy, the vintage is making its mark. Deep, juicy sweet red fruits on the nose. Velvety and pleasant texture. The broad and sweet fruit of the vintage is staring to give way to typical more tart red fruit sensations and acidity, but this humble Bourgogne Rouge is really holding on! Should have bought a case.. Maybe 2005 isn´t the most terroir driven vintage, but I suspect much pleasure around the table in the future.

Light golden. Fat, salty and volcanic nose. Not very fruity, nor high acidity, but gorgeous nevertheless! Mineral and spicy, some herby notes. Long, persistent finish, where the acidity comes along. Good stuff. Drinking very well now. Not sure if any more time and maturity is going to elevate this any further.

From experience I know that dry Furmints from Szepsy rewards patience. But I was tempted by this, and caved in. From opening it behaves like av white burgundy. Rather dense, rich and showing some oak character. Full bodied white, packed with quince, spices and lurking volcanic minerality underneath. The acidity is well integrated and not the most prominent in the wine. I expect and hope that with time, the wine will "unpack" some of the elements and show more acidity, minerals and a leaner structure. Apart from that; love the wine.

Deep golden yellow. Oozes of lava and flowers. Rich and low in acidity for a riesling. But then again, this is not a riesling wine, it is a Rangen wine. Terroir shows beautifully through everything else this beverage is comprised of. Drinking nicely now. Mature and suave. Keeps in the fridge till day two as well.

The palate is rich with a supporting acidity. I love this stuff.

Pinot Gris Thann 2005. Declassified grapes from grand cru Rangen. I had one bottle of this wine just after release in 06 or 07, and remember it as a rather fat and juicy wine. Now it has slimmed down, but there is still sweetness left. (Label says Indice 3). Lots of volcanic minerality on the nose, and also dried tropical fruits like mango, litchi and pineapple. Yellow apples, quice and apricots. 5 bucks this would have fooled a lot of people, if it was thrown into a blind Tokaji tasting. Leaner now in this face, and I think it is time to drink up. Holding up well in the fridge for 24 hours under vacuum. Good stuff.

Poped and poured. Clear like crystal in all the senses I could deploy to discover this wine. Tight and packed with citrus, minerals and razorsharp acidity. Long and vibrant, but holding back a lot of things. I belive this beauty will reveal more of itself after some years of slumbering in my cellar. But I am not sure there is enough flesh to outlive the acidity in really longterm aging. Check back in two years.
