We believe this bottle of this (previously amazing) wine was corked. We probably waited too long to drink it -- couldn't even finish our glasses....

This is a real find for someone who is not a white lover. Great mineral content to go with the pistachio encrusted black truffle goat cheese salad with a white wine fig, golden raisin and pomegranate compote salad. Refining this dish for the second time this week, but found the perfect wine. Overall I give the wine a 88 pts for all wines, but a close to best in class for whites at a 92+ (can only think of 1 or maybe 2 other whites that are close.

2010 Tili Umbria L'ETRUSCO Chardonnay Blend, Chardonnay (view label images)
This is our go to white for every dish... just the best of balance.

Awesome, the 1997 is drinking at its peak. Thanksgiving party with Mary Rice... everyone loved it!

Wonderful-One of the best wines, price point even included…..but it must be the 2000 or 2001. Ran out of a suppler source in the US, but contacted the vineyard and pleaded to get some wine from their library…they were so generous as to sell me a case of 2000 and 2001—thank you so much you made our week, year and decade.
Red
What can I say--this is the bomb of a wine. Everyone love this, from the Pinot folks to the big cab people...they all find something to love in this simple grape but complex wine.
Red
Rich and dark and drinking well now but needs 3-5 more years to start to make its mark.
Red
This wine is drinking great now.

See note from my past...still the same!!!! Outstanding.

This is a great expression of the new wave of production in Italy. Building on tradition, this wine breaks the barrier to add to tradition and makes it better. I have had the 1997 and 2001 and 2004, this however (the 2007) is a unique expression of what they are trying to achieve….success on all fronts, I will be at the vineyard the week between September 21 and October 2nd when I am in Italy and can not wait to access some large format bottles. Will drink well for 15 plus more years. Sorry no classic tasting notes, they would not do it justice. Buy one bottle and try it, you will be hooked, but not until I fill my cellar with all I can.

Come on folks, this is a great Barolo…price point is on mark and is a solid 90 points. This is not for the “tip toe through the tulips” Barolo drinker, that like the modern style and sleep on silk sheets. This is a CLASSIC, RUSTIC beast best served with a dry Salame al Tartufo, Salame Casalingo or even a Piccante and is a wine for those that like flannel sheets in the winter and sleep with the windows open at 20 below. Great, get out of your posh comfort zone, and try this wine…only 6000 produced, but at $70 per bottle you will have an exclusive piece of rustic style. For us we had it for lunch with a two types of sheep’s milk cheese, spicy Picannte Salame and dark salt toffee. chocolate.

Solid wine for the price. Crisp fruit (apple and pear)

Good clean fun of a wine. Sipping by a fire with some large count shrimp--yes goes well. Paid $47 for this, about 8-10 too high.

2004 Antinori Solaia Toscana IGT SuperTuscan Blend (view label images)
Cabin Dinner— Rigatoni with Bolognese Sauce with pancetta and spicy sausage, wine and leek braised brussels sprouts.

Wine: 2004 SOLAIA

WINE: Good but not GREAT, my feeling for wines of this high class. It would blow the mind if I did not know what I was drinking…if I am going to spend a Benjamin plus a Jackson on a wine it better impressive. Maybe drank early. It was smooth with cinnamon after notes but expected more. Not quite the Rocker that has resorted to Casino Midwest Tours, but maybe a Vegas headliner like David Copperfield--predictable and entertaining (not Celine Dion- having some known’s like some high notes but who cares I knew it was coming and I paid big bucks for that—plus who would claim they actually went to a Dion show) but not as cleaver a wine as Cirque du Soleil where you may be surprised and astonished—did not make that mark.

Tried something different, served with oyster stew. Went very well. Very light prune (more current then prune), not too sweet; good alcohol balance; some calk finish. Tannins still propionate, can lay down for several more years---but a fine example of a French wine from this region. Little narrow with some wood tones.

Dinner: Sushi Grade Atlantic Salmon, Wine Soaked Cedar Planked Over Parmesan Risotto; Brussel sprouts pan roasted with artisan bacon, leeks and golden raisins. THE WINE WAS A STAR. I would buy this over and over agian.

This is a darker, rich bodied with some blended dark fruit upfront and a slight cherry finish. Some charred oak—lingers on the mouth. Nice alcohol balance. Some caulk in the finish. Served with finger sandwiches of Iberian ham, black truffle cheese and pecorino with honey; worked well. This is a Jaguar X-Type in style: some nice features, decent design but if you sit down and think about it (in this era) it is still a Ford under the hood. Not a bad rap...Ford makes a good car but you know it is good car but may just lack that something special.
Red
Same night as prior bottle on this date (my wife and I Only) so good needed a 2nd bottle....need I say more?

Value, Value, Value…Borolo watch out this does compete is a very good Nebbiolo…smooth on the mouth, low acidity, clean finish. If James Taylor were a Nebbiolo this would be it; classic, refined, understated. A treat to find a wine of this caliber that you don’t feel horrible drinking with your favorite frozen Pizza, but goes well with the finest of white truffle pasta. At $39 bucks a bottle should have filled my basement.

A crisp afternoon wine with Apple and Green Pear..serve slightly cold and just sit back and enjoy.

Simply one of the best Chardonnays’ I have ever had the privilege to consume. Produced just outside of Spello, it is not unheard of in the region but not classic. This is a small production handled with care under strict organic methods. Produced to please the wife of the owner, you can tell the care taken in producing this wine.

2005 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri Sassicaia Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Simply an outstanding effort and overall wine. If anyone tells you that no wine is worth $150 plus a bottle has not tried this wine; worth every penny….only recommendation, pick your friends that you share this with and care should be taken not to cast pearls before swine.

2005 Château Lafon-Rochet St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
A solid 3 point field goal when needed. Did not disappoint but was not the high scorer in the game—very good but not mind blowing great. I would serve to most anyone for a special dinner.
Red
Outstanding wine with some interesting characteristics—of all things a present background note of menthol—sounds strange but was quite nice.

What made it a 79 was the spicy food we had with it or it would have been all too sweet.

A small Pinot; not much there but is fine with a upscale cheese to add to what it lacks, not bad but would not actively seek out.

Serve at upper end of temperature; volatiles need some warmth to express. Less fruit than first tried, still cherry/blackberry, red licorice followed by a slight note of red anise candy—all in a nice muted background and not too much of a fruit bomb. Acidic front of the mouth finish, with a hint of lemon oil.

The 2005 Roero Riserva Trinita is a gorgeous wine redolent of perfumed raspberries, cherries, flowers and sweet spices. Today the tannins are somewhat unresolved, but with some patience the wine should turn in to a gem. The integrity and purity of fruit not to mention the wines balance are all first-class. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. This is an exceptional release from Malvira, one of the leading producers in the Roero district.

Inexpensive not too sweet; dry pear, lemon/lime oil dominate and slight butterscotch on the back of the mouth. Keeping on hand for those days above 80 degrees and a beer or G&T just is not in the cards. Good acid.
