Day 2 and still not filling out for me. Today, distinct iceberg and freezer burn aromas. Wanting more.

Day three more enjoyable and more ‘perm’ than iceberg and apple-y palate, but not too off putting. Still a pretty mineral underbelly. Smoother today too. Where’d that extract bump go?

dialed back next to the 2022 Missouri Hopper Cab. loads of freshness, more purity of black fruit, with less oak and spice showing than the 22MS.

Ruby color, shows more floral acumen vs the 2009 with more fruit. here, mineral first, then fruit and floral. feels more classic

Later that evening. More astutely black fruit aromas and more concealed than the 2009 Palmer. Grilled bread aromas. Medium plus tannin still, really coiled. Ripe tannin, but still generous and in need of time to resolve. Approachable all the same. Mineral laced palate and loads of freshness, not feeling hard, but just in need of space/time/air.

Day 2, wonderfully harmonious. Just needs air/time to come together: blackberry fruit palate, medium plus acid.

garnet color, more primary and dark fruit, a little earthy, more than 3 years worth of difference between this and the 2006.

After half of the day open, this is just singing…red and black fruit aromas, mingled with emerging mature notes. A little earth, not too mineral. Much more harmony over the 2012, still relatively wound up. Here, almost the richness of coconut oil, but coming up short of it. Earth, sillage, fruit, lightly gunflint tinged. This is excellent Palmer…

Thanks to Henry for bringing. Really earthy at the cork pull, with time really steps into the barnyard note and gets quite straight poopy to the note and palate. Still enjoyable all the same. Big and rich, hedonistic and not to hard edged.

With time open this gets into that harmonious and character driven tango of rhubarb and chrysanthemum. Sweet fruited palate, with some stems underpinning the palate. Seemed to be favorite at the table tonight. AKA Tango Sur.

Palate is more golden in flavor, snappy, light oak, really good and pleasantly aldehydic. Again, almost out of character for Boisset, but I’m loving what they’re putting forward here.

Aromas are a little too keyed up. Getting into tire burnout territory, a little flint behind that, but too distracting. Solid palate, but that sharp oaky tone leaves a mark.

Scharzofberg was the site of a Cloister of Nuns. but then that part of Germany became French and Napoleon sold the site off to Egon Muller I. now 6th Generation Egon Muller. It's said that the daughter of the 2nd generation gave her portion back to the Church after 20 years. Eventually the Cloister was moved to Trier.

Their cellar master, Hans, has been there since 1977. used to be lots more oak used back then. 1000 casks in cellar in 1977, and around only 250 casks currently. Their cellar dates back to 800AM and wine has been made there since 1590.

Here, light struck match aromas, and a nuanced pepperiness. mineralogy here is very pronounced, but not pointedly so. Very much a rounded tip. less apple aromas. more quince into pear fruit. f*** this is good.
glassy textured palate, extract here feels less pronounced than with the 2019 Brut. high acid, a little extract and a chewy palate. lots of clarity of flavor framed by structural elements.

w/ time in the glass, plump and round melon aromas. 11.5% ABV and picked at an Auslese level of ripeness. Rheinhessen/Rhiengau can get GGs upto 13%...

Valentines 2024 solo Coravin, pnp.
Aromas of black raspberry. Medium garnet color. Palate is still dense and lots of opacity to the flavors. Iodine, medium plus acid freshness. Balanced by that density. In a good spot to start, let’s see where it goes…
Coming up on 20 min in glass and this is OOS (not out of stock). The darkest black cherry aroma. Harmonious. Depth, and breadth. Earth, licorice, truly marvelous.
An hour in, now doubt this is astounding. Aromas sur point.

Day 2 from a left over. More rustic. A wall of tannin today, may I say a full of tannin. More maturity shows too. But still pleasant.

Finished the coravin'd bottle a week later. Excellent at the end of tomato pasta. Still in the same frame as Day 2. Day 1 was extraordinary and leveled out after that.

Color gets a little gravelly.
