I thought this showed its best form after a couple hours in, also remarkably perfumed and aromatic, had that classy stems and grassy note to it, cooling mint, cloves, black tea, red peach and sweet strawberry fruit that is perfectly ripe. It’s not blowing my mind tonight but it is most complete and wholesome wine of the lot out there, and you can’t be unhappy sipping on it. Complexity on this young wine is rather unreal.

Buddy brought this to the table, very good showing and not much deviation from the previous bottle that I’ve tasted couple months ago!

Very enjoyable village, Jadot nailing this with a classic. tonight this bettered some of the modern style makers Vosnes, over the top Lamarche Malconsort and a weak Vogue Chambolle. Right of the bat, Vosne spices with strawberries, cherries and orange peel. Palate is light but within expectation of the quality level.

Deep and dark, with a ton of oak. Not a greaf malconsorts right off the bat. After couple hours, you get bit more fruit and starts to be expressive, although the heaviness does not dissipate. Some liquorice taking shape. This will need a lot more time before broaching and I’m not optimistic about the end product.

Dark fruits in a very deep shade, there is some lift on the nose, but ultimately not special.

The fresh pour was very nice and the first few minutes probably was the best for me, as it does have that mellow, rustic and well integrated oaky nose. Then the Brett took over and it became very distracting. Loads of barnyard and horse poop. Palate was correct but I felt the wine is fading, with high pitched acidity overtaking the fruits.

Darkish wine that is very Vogue but lacking that seductive violet nose that I also identify with Vogue. This rendition of CM has a touch of green, evident oak, dark cherry, and rather persistent tannins. Definitely not the best I’ve seen from them, and is rather average as far as Chambolle goes.

Fashionable and modern nose, really lifted, crunchy berry fruits, rose petals and spicy stems. Like the charmes de mazieres but with less fruit intensity but no less crushable.

The best rendition of modern JP Guyon I’ve had, the others I’ve tried felt like they just weren’t consistent or hitting the right notes for me (too dark, too brooding, or too natural, for lack of a better word). This though is right in that supremely fashionable alley, high pitched aroma that is bursting full of lush red strawberries, sweet candied berries, orange zest. Very spicy, minty, ethereal and finishes very fine.

A very interesting white, bursting full of pear drops and exotic stone fruits (lychee, guava etc). With air, you get some of those more classic notes that is more burgundy but, the stone fruits doesn’t go away. Good body and acid though, and I’d have gone to a properly high quality Pinot Grigio on a blind with this.

Interesting NSG blanc, albeit not the greatest expression. The fresh pour had plenty of oak, and some caramel honey on the palate, feels older than it really this, 30min in this started to collapse, rather oxidative and apple cider. Feels like another one of those experimental Guyon wines.

An elegant expression of white burgundy, bit of that roundness, bright acidity, less the intensity of fruit of a proper ripe vintage. Oak is barely noticeable. Difficult to put a finger as to where this is from but enjoyable now and a good sipper.

A superb Chardonnay. Blistering acid, good ripeness and dense body, framed by well proportioned oak. While it’s approachable now, what this really needs is time, and tons of it too.

This has the Jadot signature, dark fruits that is not too dense on the palate. There is quite abit of earth and mushrooms, tertiary development is there with still plenty of fruits left. Decent, straight down the middle type of Jadot.

Very sweet and lifted nose. Less ethereal than the Barthod but this definitely had the Chambolle touch to it. It’s a lovely pour, short on complexity but doesn’t take away the enjoyment.

Same bottle as Melvin below, and concur with everything that was described. Sweet, red berry fruits. Lots of strawberry and very lifted nose, rather Chambolle in that sense. Acid was high pitched but thought everything fanned out nicely after some air. Barthod for me shines in these not so lauded vintages, with the exception of a 17 I had lately which was tight to the next level.

Tertiaries are developing very much already. Rather burly and had overwhelming earthy tones. This lacked any kind of finesse whatsoever, although you do pick up some kind of wilted rose and dark berry notes. More Gevrey than Chambolle, although it’s not really a bad thing. The acidity on this does stand out to me.

Rich and intense, both on the nose and palate. Caramel, spiced apple, lemon curd, the acid is penetrating and the finish really chalky and mineral, which is classic of Lassaigne. This is a powerful and vinous expression of champagne which I enjoy, although more time lying down will do it even more justice.

Bit rich and round, with little to no oak usage. Some lemon, chalk and touch of oyster shell. Thought this a wine from Macon region that’s made in a leaner style.

94 release, very very bready, fresh out of the oven type nose, with dose of mustiness which I presume is due to both the age and the cork. Doesn’t impact the palate though, is rather sweet and old school.

Tasted like an aged house champagne, with unfortunately nothing more to offer beyond that. It is a correct wine though and does offer pleasure, albeit very uninteresting.

A fine champagne which I thought was in the style of Comtes des Champagne. Obviously a grande marque product and in a massive way too, for me this represents the best of house champagnes; brioche, solar intensity and lemon curd. Acidity does stand out at the finish but it’s well balanced and I do like it. Can’t believe I’m saying this about Cristal, shows I need my Cristals with age.

This is a lovely expression from Claire, and the most complete 2018 across her range that I’ve tasted so far. Dark sour cherries, strawberries, pronounced floral notes. The acidity is there like it always is but not sticking out, it’s also got good weight and fruit density to the finish.

Ridiculously delicious, generous bouquet full of watermelon and strawberry laced with a bit of reduction. Not an overly complex wine but with just enough material to be interesting and almost decadent to sip on. Refined tannins. This is very young now and already lip smacking.

Reductive, rich and dense. This has a lot of wound up energy and stuffing that I feel it’s gonna require a few years to mellow down.

The G. Selosse Largillier only just edged it for me amongst the trinity of excellent bubbles which involved Cédric Bouchard Ursules 13 and Prevost Beguines LC19, but edged it did, and the juice was glorious to behold. Powerful nose that had the unmistakable house style, but rubbed off in a gentler way. Beneath all that brawny and dramatic nose, the wine is mineral and focused, and had beautifully chiseled finish.

Provost is prevost again, and only gotten better. Spicy and oxidative plum nose, full of toasted nuts and sweet pear. In the mouth, this had muscular entry, bursting fruits which finished off chalky and focused. No you don’t need to lay this down to enjoy it, it’s roaring from the get-go. Also, low dosage is quite apparent here.

Absolutely stunning Cédric Bouchard and probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Straddles the perfect middle ground of having tremendous energy and rounded tertiary complexity. It’s like biting into a meticulously crafted caramel lemon tart, the bottle was passed around and vapourized in a flash.

pop and pour. amalgamation of roses, dark cherries, blood orange, minty spices and woody undergrowth. The classic cool and lush Dujac game here. Oak not yet fully integrated but it’s doing its best to get there. Palate is crackling, with a broad spectrum of stimulating spices doing good work in the mouth. Overall, I’d let this sit for a bit before cracking another one.

I think it’s very good for what it is, secondary market prices aside obviously. Rather modern and fashionable nose of lemon curd, almond and white flowers. Bouquet is soaring 30min in. The palate is reductive, fruit though is restrained and focused. 4 hours later loses some of that focus in place of more breadth. Oily texture. Enjoyable, but not mind blowing.

Edit: 3 days on, this is actually getting better and better. Flavour profile broadens, with a little more sweetness and ripeness. The depth of this is in full bloom, while not overly so which is in line with its lineage.

The 2008 Comtes is simply going from strength to strength. The most ready rendition I’ve had, full of brioche, lemon curd, toasted almond, honey, and marzipan. Super giving on both the nose and palate, and will probably stay like this for a long time to come.

Lots of tertiary here and more generous up against the 2017. Got plenty of earth, ripe but dried cherry fruit, raspberries, spices, well resolved oak and touches of cocoa powder. The issue I have here is that 08 acid, just kinda jutting out a little too much for my comfort. Otherwise, a lovely pour

Really wound up at the moment, and needs tremendous breathing to wake up. Lacking that 17 generosity. Also quite dark fruited; cherries, raspberries, and touches of liqueur. I think this has the stuffing to be something delicious but today, it just needs to sort itself out first.

Very pleasurable, and elegant; more red fruited vs black and had that trademark screechy acidity. Good development here with some cherries, smoky tapenade, barnyard and earth. Obviously doesn’t hail from a blockbuster year but still nice to have tasted it. Legs to go further but I wouldn’t bother.

A pale orange red. Packs a lot on the nose and immediately identifiable as Rayas and an excellent representation of range. This would’ve done even better with another 12 hours of air time, as it got strikingly elegant on day 2. Some prunes, candied strawberries, potpourri and lots of spices in the mouth. The wine gave a lot of oomph and a big dash of sweet fruit, but on the palate, weightless and airy, leaving almost no evidence of the suggest “jamminess” as a result of those exciting peppers and spice dancing on the tongue. Got a lot left in the tank.

Really difficult to place this wine, not getting any of the Rayas DNA on this at the start, but with some air time in the glass, yea the sweet fruit, kirsch, honey and prunes kicked it, although still very much dialed back that what I would’ve expected. Today it’s a massive block that’s unyielding and wound up, and from the looks of it, I’m really not sure when this’ll turn around.

Glossy dark and extracted Chambolle but at the same time managed to keep everything in check and not overdone. This reminded me of Vogue, albeit with a little less flamboyance. Lush fruit and serious structure, yea this will last for a while yet.

Bit wild and rustic, like Ponsot without the complexity and giving fruit. Big tannins and structure which points to perhaps a grand cru but I went to Nebbiolo here. This is a classic Grivot of old and this is for sure an acquired taste, one which I’m still struggling to like.

Surprise package of the evening because I've not heard of the maker and it's so darn good. A very lovely and mellow Echezeaux, lots of classicism, sou bois and autumnal leaves, with touches of dried cherry fruits that is still going strong. Not at all drying out whatsoever.

Quite developed already and drinking well. Looks older than 89 though from the rather light and sparse palate. Doesn't come across as a blockbuster wine. However, the aromatics and sweetness of the fruit is rather on point and I enjoyed it. If this bottle is representative however, it's probably time to empty the stash.

Similar notes to Pavel below. Thought this a super tuscan wine by the sheer size of it, as old Napas can be rather mellow after these amount of age. Copious amount of dark fruits, tannins, alot of muscle and gusto, though rather one dimensional at that. Probably better with a lot more age.

Glad to have tasted this again after a few years, though it remains tremendously youthful still. The previous one I had might be mildly corked and this I felt was in good shape. Deep ruby hues and some solid structure remaining in the tank. All the typical Pauillac goodness of pencil shavings, blue berries, cherry, and liquorice, very suave and imposing at the back.
