October 13, 2023 - Demi-bottle under screw cap, drink superbly. Very elegant and refined at 12 years of age. Savoury nose with a hint of barnyard. The fruit is dimished on the palate compared to a couple years back, leaving a beautifully integrated savoary wine with a long, dry finish.

May 11, 2023 - eleven-vintage Ata Rangi vertical (K&L Redwood City): medium ruby colour. dark cherry, currant, anise, bramble and earth on the nose. very expressive in the mouth, the entry is quite juicy and fruity. mid palate the fruit notes take on lovely savoury bend, accented by the spice notes. fine-grained integrated tannins and a balancing acidity make this an enjoyable wine at the moment. good concentration and persistence.

[slow-starting season with late flowering and cool weather early on. conditions were then favourable with warm days and cool nights for later than normal harvest]

April 6, 2022 - First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind.
Wood glue, sweet spice, ripe black fruit, clean, polished oak. medium plus intensity acidity, fleshy, peppery spice, dark hued fruit, alcohol warmth would be intrusive but this is served at cellar temperature so it's kept in check. A little oaky bitterness. It's a little bit too worked for me.
the nose really put me in mind of Schubert and Gladstone so I went with Martinborough Pinot, 4-6 years old.

June 20, 2021 - I’ve finally had my NZ moment: this is a really classy wine. Refreshing acidity, with lovely acidity balancing the fruit and tannin and did I mention the acidity? Yum. Stood up nicely to Napoletana pasta sauce, which is no mean feat. My wife was taken by the tertiary development, which is there but still early. All components still going but in a great place now. I have had previous disappointment, but following this wine will now form an orderly queue to buy more. 13.8% ABV.

March 19, 2021 - Pinot Noir 2010: Switzerland vs Burgundy (Bern): This was the pirate in the tasting and somebody thought about the other emisphere (Australia, rather than New Zealand), but also Germany was mentioned. Much on the fruit, but starting to show evolution on the nose. High concentration, lacking grace.
