April 1, 2017 - Decanted before drinking. Very dark, dense and viscous wine. My guess is that this needs a longer decant or more time in the bottle. Somewhat unfocused but a big overwhelming mine for my palate. Fruits covered up by tannins. A nice wine but not making me run out and buy more of a more recent vintage and I love Ridge wines.

February 20, 2017 - Very dark. Yasted blind I would have thought it was a Ridge Zinfandel, but darker and more (but manageable) tannin. I'd expected more of a beast but was quite happy with what I got. Drink now but suspect no hurry.

January 21, 2017 - Much more open than my previous bottle, with juicy and dusty blackberry fruit and just a little grip on the backend for some nice structure. Drink or hold.2 people found this helpful Comment

November 26, 2016 - Having cut my teeth on Petite Sirah with Ridge's super 1984 York Creek (with all of it's volatile acidity and foxiness flaws), I have come to expect high extraction and power from any PS of repute.
Tonight I compared a 2006 and this 2010 PS from Ridge. Wow. Ridge has not kept up with the power concept of California PS.
The 2006 was dead-in-the-water...really no life or substance. The 2010 had some life, and was balanced, but offered no focused power. No perceivable extract, some blackberry character, but nothing to keep up with a rich meal.
Perhaps if this were drunk at 3-4 years of life there would be more vitality, but that is NOT what PS should be about. A 10-year-old PS should just be coming into it's own--tons of tannic blackberry velvet should be evident.
