April 14, 2014 - Napa Valley Tour; 4/11/2014-4/15/2014 (French Laundry,Meadowood,Colgin,Araujo,Harlan....): Tasted at the estate.
Dark red, purple , dense colour. Starts with a smoky side, dark fruits, pepper, and adds more of a herby, sage side while maintaining a ripe fruit base. Big wine but not heavy and although very very young still approachable and lacks hash edges.balanced , fresh and vibrant ,carries the alcohol well and with a light herbaceous side, full of fruit and has a cooler vintage feel. Very solid and eclipsed the 2008 we had side by side. Too young to rate but full of promise.

November 15, 2013 - A Privileged Colgin Tasting (One Market, San Francisco): Now this is the bees knees IMO, and the most impressive wine I've ever had. Utterly opaque in color, with some anise, cedar and tar notes complementing the rich fruit. Even at this early age, the intoxicating bouquet and rich, layered fruit pulled me spiraling into the glass like that occasional dream where I'm falling and falling for so long I stop worrying about when I will land... and never do. Transcendent and beautiful.

November 14, 2013 - This is a perfect wine. Full stop. From the first sniff until the glass is empty this is a seamless, wonderful and very luxurious experience. The nose is pure, massive and impressive. Still there is such a refinement it is hard to describe. The wine is smooth as silk and there is not a hard edge to it. The palate is striking and made me write "wow, wow, wow!!!" in my notes. This is perfection in a bottle - without the slightest doubt. A world class effort from one of the best producers in the world.

September 18, 2013 - Winorama with a surprise (engagement)!; 9/15/2013-9/18/2013 (Napa Valley California): Big and bold and strong. It's got some unripened fruit and a bit of pepper and cedar and leather. What I would imagine if someone suggested drinking liquid velvet in a glass. There's an elegance here that you don't expect for such a young wine (esp not one with quite the girth of this one). First time with the Colgin IX Estate and it certainly did not disappoint. I'd love to see it in a few more years - had the '08 at the same time and there was clearly a bit more complexity there.
