Community Tasting Notes 5

April 11, 2007 - Had no idea what to expect from this wine, but it was very enjoyable. I could just echo rmodak's tasting notes on this as mine were very similar. The medium weight (sort of pinot-like body) and nice acidity made it a great match to dinner at Avenue's. And amazingly enough, this improved over the course of a couple of hours, so it probably still has some time. Very enjoyable.

March 2, 2007 - Drinking nicely with aromas of raspberry and garrigue. Lush, slightly chalky mouthfeel with herbs de provence and tannic finish. A bit rustic but tasty.

October 2, 2006 - I had no expectations going in and was pleasantly surprised. This is a fruit+spice bomb, somewhat tempered by age, but still pretty damn spice-filled. Some bramble and garrigue mixed in as well. Controversial wine at our dinner -- the wine lovers either liked it or at least found it interesting from a wine-making POV, the non-winos all hated it...

I would drink this sooner rather than later -- when it loses that fruit, there will be nothing left to combine well with the spices.

November 20, 2004 - A surprising new taste and yes, enjoyable wine. Dark and rich ruby red with a violet hue...strong spicey nose that has a full rounded display of not fresh, but fermented berries...yes, I know it's fermented grape juice!! But the aroma has that little kick to it, not entirely sweet, but a broader rich brush covering the swath of dark berries. A mouth full of taste that stays with you, and the tannin, not overwhelmingly so, grips the palate and holds it all together. Very well done. Sipped over two days, and it did smooth out a little, but there always seemed to be this bite on the finish...hard to describe, but it was consistent. Kept getting my attention!!

August 1, 2004 - I had no real expectations so this was a pleasant surprise. Pepper, spice, more pepper, and some black fruit on the nose. On the palate, however, this wine gushes blueberries, raspberries, and plenty more pepper. Medium bodied, but there is some bite from tannins. With a little more weight or texture, I could have mistaken it for a decent Rhone syrah.
