December 25, 2023 - Christmas 2023; 12/24/2023-12/26/2023 (Home): So tasty! Very volatile on the nose, with notes of furniture polish, nuts, vanilla, tobacco leaf, orange peel and cocoa - classic. Not too sweet on the palate despite a definite note of red boiled sweets, as there's sufficient thrilling acidity and also some dark coffeebean to counteract. Such a lovely finish, too, which ends with warmth from the otherwise unobtrusive alcohol. I've had better Madeira, but this is bloody good.

    February 22, 2023 - Open 48hrs. Bottled in 2020 so 18yrs in cask - almost a frasqueira.

Rich dark mahogany. There's an awful lot going on on the nose here - furniture polish, dried figs, dates, dark brown muscovado sugar and molasses. The palate is rich, sweet and unctuous with dried figs and toffee apple. There's a tawny port sweetness here but then comes that acidity, and while the sweetness lingers in the mouth long after the wine has gone, the finish is clean and definitely dry. This is everything I wish tawny port could be. It has the richness and complexity of a 30/40yr old tawny but finishes clean and dry. This is delicious and would be perfect with vanilla ice cream or crème brulee. Great value too. If this was a frasqueira, it would be twice the price.

February 4, 2016 - Madeira Pilgrimage; 2/1/2016-2/4/2016 (Madeira): Nose of bright flowers (quite fresh for a Malvasia). Juicy and sweet but not too brown sugary or baked. More nuanced floral and honey flavors.
