April 5, 2024 - Friday Night Lights (Jim and Michelene's Place, St. Paul, MN): Medium red plus color with a 2mm clear edge. Drank a couple glasses over 2 hours. It's been forever since I had one of these, and I had wondered back then where this was going - and did it still need more time. Well, I can say in this case anyway, that this bottle was much better than back in 2015. In fact, this kept getting better in glass tonight. There's some high toned dried forest floor driving the nose along with plenty of tobacco leaf, cool cherry, and savory dark berries. The palate is medium bodied with dried leaves, cherry, tobacco, dark berries, savory, crushed rocks, and still present medium grained tannins. In great shape and really fun to see the evolution. This can go 5 years hands down, and probably ten.

September 29, 2019 - Black cherry and roasted meat on nose and palate, aging gently but clearly earthy with faint spice. A bit fresher vs the St. I 1999 Brickhouse, but not quite as complex.

September 1, 2015 - WTDS at The Kenwood With Some Older Gems (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 2 hours. Very slow to open, tight and harsh initially, this eventually showed more depth and some finesse as one would expect. Dry earth, spice, dark berry, something unusual that I can't quite put my finger on too. The palate adds some dried flowers and black cheery to the mix. Maybe a bit of dill too. I like it, but it doesn;t quite live up to expectations for SI and Shea. The question I guess is where is this in the evolutionary stage. Initially it seemed tired, but it came around enough to almost think it needs more time to really show.

May 2, 2015 - A lot of Pinot Noirs (My backyard): I think I liked this more than the group. For me it was signing on opening. Ruby in color. The nose has cherries and sour cherries, slightly earthy. Complex and layered. Very feminine. Great balance. Seems to be about at peak but has a long life ahead. Great cherry fruit layered with funk and dry earthy notes. Very nice.
