Community Tasting Notes 6

February 7, 2022 - Dark clear color. Lots of dark fruit, vanilla, pepper, plum and cherry. Medium body. Soft tannins. Great Austrian wine based on the Zweigelt grape.

July 4, 2021 - Serious, focused bitter cherry and plums. Dark chocolate on the finish. Tannins are very gentle but provide a serious backdrop to the fruit. Delicious as ever.

January 19, 2021 - Medium+ ruby colour, intensive notes of black fruits, cherry & plum, hints of dried fruits, aromas of tobbacco, forest earthy note. It‘s a dry wine, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, smooth medium tannins, full bodied and long finish. Very good wine

January 17, 2021 - Clear, medium purple. Aromas of cherry, prunes, oak, chocolate. Medium+ body, medium acidity, integrated, smooth tanins. Juicy, with taste of cherry, prune, chocolate. One of the best Zweigelt I had.

June 18, 2018 - Tour of Palace Coburg wines & dinner @ Silvio Nickol; 6/18/2018-6/19/2018 (Palace Coburg in Vienna): I was prewarned that the reds from Austria are perhaps not quite as well respected as the whites. This is a red from a producer who is trying to change all of that, but still sorting things like appropriate oak treatment. And working with a grape that's a bit off the beaten track and where I haven't seen people draw out complexity. So it's bright and fine and even strikes me as a wine that understands a good steak dinner, but didn't stand out.
