February 15, 2024 - New Zealand Trip; 2/10/2024-2/24/2024: Light red center with fading tawny outer third. Seductive Burgundian aromas-smoke, strawberry, and faint menthol. Light weight, the barest touch of wood, delicate red fruit, some undergrowth, average acidity, and resolved back end without any residual tannin. Subtle and understated wine that I might have misidentified as a 2007 or 2000 Burgundy. More advanced than I would have expected but probably on a stable plateau that could last for some years.

May 19, 2023 - 13x Pinot Greatness: Tasted double blind. This was not the most complex wine in the lineup, but it had the purest, sweetest, most Rayas-esque fruit expression which is to die for. Felton can easily compee with fine Burgundy. In terms of QPR it‘s miles ahead.

TN: Super expressive, super pure ripe red berries. On the palate the same thing, super ripe red strawberries, some spices, some herbs, some minerality. Wonderful. Expressive. Precise. Superb. Medium- complexity. Very fine, light and airy, satin-like texture. Good length but not the most impressive finish.

Decanting: Double decanted a few hours pior to consumption which seems fine.

October 8, 2022 - This was a lot better than the first bottle nice clean fruity Pinot

March 28, 2022 - Two 2016 Felton Road Pinots drunk at home: Drunk from Zalto Denk'Art Burgundy stem side-by-side with the Block 5. Drunk over four days. It did not change during the first three days but was beginning to fall over on the fourth evening. New oak 35%, whole bunch 25%. Under screwcap. Bright ruby colour, with a touch more garnet than the Block 5. The first impression of the bouquet is spice rack – cinnamon, nutmeg and other brown spices – dried herbs, dry clay, raspberries, red cherries and a little strawberry. Red rose florals and traces of toasty oak. On palate, rich and ripe pinot fruit, but not the volume of the Block 5. Lighter bodied and a little leaner than the Block 3, with chewier, crunchier fruit. The acidity a little more pronounced, as compared with the fruit. Dried herbs, bramble, garrigue, wild raspberries and red cherries. Hints of citrus and drinking chocolate. Filigreed, fine tannins. Good length, finishing on stony minerality. To drink from now until 2030+. 92+.

January 14, 2022 - 2019 Visit to Cromwell (Central Otago, NZ): Another fragrant bouquet. Expressive, lifted, floral and spicy with bright cherry and berry fruit. Very generous fruit on palate, but lighter bodied and seemingly lacking in some structure and tannin. “Lovely juiciness”, said Jane. Returning to the rest of the bottle two days later, it was more red fruited and perfumed, showing raspberries and strawberries. Lovely mouthfeel, well balanced with vibrant acidity. Opening up beautifully. Perhaps a vintage like 2011 now drinking well but not one to hold long term?
