Community Tasting Notes 2

May 5, 2022 - Bottle purchased from a museum cellar release via Langtons - cellared there since bottling. I poured the single glass using a Coravin. Initially the colour of the wine in the glass was brick-red, the nose was closed, but had a strong suggestion of asphalt or iodine, very tight in the mouth. I thought I'd better leave it be for a while. After 30 minutes in the glass the colour of the wine had brightened and showed a pale to moderate garnet colour. The initial notes of asphalt and iodine had all but gone to be replaced by a fine leather and (what I suppose is) cigar box - all a bit alluring. In the mouth the wine had become much more open and still carried the feel of how I remember drinking Metala Shiraz Cabernet in the 70s and 80s. Tannins no longer present. Red fruit present still. The wine flowed easily over the tongue. Pleasant, medium length finish. Satisfying.
