Flight 1 (16 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Disgorged July 2019. Floral with roses and violets, toasty pencil shavings and lemon rind. Rich and complex on the palate with great balance and texture. Delicious.
White - Sparkling
2013 David Leclapart Champagne Premier Cru L'Artiste Blanc de Blancs Pas Dosé Trépail France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Lemon rind, lime, smokey notes and ginger. Lean and clean with tangy acid and good flow. Nice length and texture. Still very young, I'd like to revisit in around 5-6 years.
Fruit/Vegetable Wine
2018 Jacques Perritaz Cidrerie du Vulcain Cidre de Fer Switzerland
Funky, bruised apple nose. Fresh flavours though, a nice contrast. Very dry and has presence on the palate.
White
2010 Albert Boxler Gewurztraminer Brand France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
93 points
Golden colour. Punchy aromatics - lifted rosewater, honey, spice and swirling white and yellow floral notes. Textured with plenty of fruit presence on the palate, there is a lick of sweetness there (20 g?) but also has the touch of Gewurtz bitterness on the palate that I really like. Amazing as usual from this producer.
White
2015 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Lemon cream, spicy oak, smoke and pear. Lean in style, good purity and zing but very young- feels likely that it has barely budged since release. Waiting for this to unfurl.
White
2004 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
89 points
Smoke, hay and toasty caramel. Oxidative palate, with a twang of tang going through. Complexity here, but it's on the tipping point.
Red
2016 Bell Hill Pinot Noir New Zealand, South Island, Canterbury
90 points
Tasted blind. Tomato, stalk, earthy and green herbal notes flowing through. Tangy acid, medium bodied, I think the herbal notes make it taste a bit older than it is, with more complexity than the young wine it is. Almost seems like it's a drink now or soon proposition.
Red
1967 Metala Shiraz - Cabernet Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Langhorne Creek
flawed
Corked.

1983 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Blind. Licorice, leather and blackberry. Bramble and dark fruit with a rich profile, fruit sweet with lovely length. Really nice composition here.
Red
1986 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon John Riddoch Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
92 points
Blind. Earthy, oak, graphite and tobacco with mint. Still has good grip on the palate to go along with the red fruit profile. Poised and balanced.

Red
1990 Penfolds Bin 920 Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra

Smoky oak, cranberry, leather, blueberry and red berries. Powerful fruit, but certainly doesn't lack for structure. Classic Penfolds red, with plenty of fruit and oak even with 30 years age on it.

Red
1990 Château Pape Clément France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
93 points
Amplified fruit profile here - redcurrant, blackberry, licorice and leathery earthy notes. Palate clamps down even with the density of the fruit. Another 20 years to go here?
Red
2006 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
86 points
Blind. Chocolate, cherry liqueur and some rubber. High octane palate, bold and dense - the fruit intensity covers over any chance of character or texture. Not a fan and not what I typically think of from this producer?

2005 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Costa Russi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

Violets, cherry, spice and blackberry. The fruit quality is undeniable, with great tension between sweetness, acid and tannin. Plenty of things happening, but it really needs more time - another 10 years might be right?
Red
2019 Lake's Folly Shiraz Hill Block Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Pokolbin

Wow - leaps out of the glass - licorice and violets, musk and blueberry/blackberry. Spices swirl on the palate, lovely length to go with the high toned flavour profile. Pure and delicious.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2004 Château Doisy-Daëne France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
91 points
Light golden colour. Apricot, lemon and orange peel. Fresh palate, light with good sweetness and push through. Not overly complex, but a really nice way to end an evening.
