April 17, 2024 - Opened at Le Cinq in Paris. Decanted and enjoyed over dinner.

You can tell that this will become an amazing wine when it finally loosens up. Unfortunately, it's still quite a long way away from this. This isn't a case of 'give it enough air' - we did this with a huge decanter - it just needs more time.

This wine also prompted an interesting discussion with Eric and the Sommelier team surrounding the usage of sulphur at the domaine. Perhaps the wines would benefit from a lighter application?

This experience also surprises me as to how open the 2014 is in comparison - I always have a great time with that.

Would put in the back of the cellar, and revisit in 5+ years. It can definitely use the time. I can't wait to see what this morphs into when it finally unfurls... however, patience will be rewarded best for now.

April 5, 2024 - Nose: wild flowers, red fruits, cherry, candy, rose, strawberry
Notes: the Roumier nose has always been quite breathtaking and wonderful, this bottle of 17 is very perfumed and delicious. This is fantastic and drinking nicely, I've always been convinced that the 17s can open early and this further confirmed my belief. Still young for sure but I think this is full of potential. Although many of the time a lot of big brands do not deliver the quality from their reputation, I'm sure this is not the case for Roumier as his wines has been consistently good.

February 2, 2024 - Drank slowly over 3 hours. So tight and savory behind a wall of tannin on opening. Like a ballerina chained to the stage. As the chains began to snap this wine oozed elegance. Intensely mineral nose with dried rose petals, red berries, mushroom and forest floor billowing from the glass. This wine danced across the palate with a savory umami quality framed by soft mineral tannins (like rain water) that oozed cassis, blue, black, and red fruit followed by a hint of cinnamon/spice box as it fanned out across finish. Always special to drink Roumier and 2017 is a vintage where Christophe really excelled. Young, but in a lovely place.

October 29, 2023 - Bourgogne visit 29/10-1/11-2023: Tasted against Arnoux-Lachaux Echezeaux 2018. Both producers are extremely popular and hyped. However the styles are very different.
Arnoux-Lachaux is a middle ground between a natural wine and the classical Bourgogne style (but more natural than classical): Extremely fruity with lots of cherry and strawberry. High acidity, medium tannin, medium+ intensity and long finish. Medium Ruby color. 95
Roumier on the other hand is savoury in style (not close to the fruitiness of Arnoux-Lachaux), red fruit notes but also closed at the moment. High acidity, medium tannin, intensity and finish. Medium ruby color. 93+

April 17, 2023 - Relatively tight to begin, emitting but a whiff of menthol and blue fruits. It breathes up beautifully to give the scent of violets and sweet cherry fruit intensifies at its core. It is fleshy and silky, overlaying a stony base. It is direct and still relatively compact. The finish fans and is loaded with savoury nuance.
