August 11, 2014 - This is incredible! Still quite structured but this wine is so balanced and refreshing. A + Pernand Red.

July 2, 2014 - Still very, very closed for the first hour or so. Pretty tannic and heavily acidic. After a while in the glass, it opened up a good deal, tannins and acids mellowed a bit and it became beautiful and silky with an expansive palate. Seems to need a few more years to enter a prime drinking window.

May 15, 2014 - Medium red color. Aromas of red fruits, cloves, underbrush and wood spices. Nicely structured, medium-bodied fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length. Very tactile and graceful on the palate with a fine acid balance. Surprisingly, still at very beginning of its peak drinking period.

March 9, 2014 - Light and transparent purple red. Earthy and mineral on the nose, also pine, wet leaves and underwood. Maybe some old barrels too? Reminds me about oldfashioned winemaking. In the mouth, silky, but tight and concentrated with lovely acidity. Low extraction here. Improved in the glass. I believe this is a stayer, 10+ years. I really liked this.

August 16, 2013 - Somewhat disappointing with a lack of fruit. No nose - very closed. I have more so I hope it opens up in a few years.

(Chandon de Brialles Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru "Ile des Vergelesses") Many 2005's are shutting down and showing awkwardly right now but after significant aeration they let you see a glimpse of the greatness. This had great depth and a fantastic midpalate. Crunchy red fruit and lots of spice, leather and earth. Thick and suave but with Grand Cru grip and finesse. This is a 20 year wine. Think I need a couple bottles of this. Love the style here of aggressive and sauvage wines based on finesse.
