June 12, 2016 - 2nd time tried from my cellar and still disappointing. Ruby red in color with mostly earth on the nose. Fruit totally lacking with mostly earth and a hint of spice on the palate. Same as last time tried 2 years ago. I don't find the fruit that other CT tasters find in this wine. Will hold my last 2 bottles for a few years and maybe some fruit will emerge.

December 2, 2015 - Subtle nose but elegant. Floral. Light bodied, with noticeable tannins and bright acidity that verges on dominating the finish. Seems much younger than 10yrs. Needs more time.

    12.5% abv.

November 29, 2015 - Pale ruby. Earthy, red-fruited ahd high pitched aromas of wet leaves and tree bark. Sappy and deep palate with tiny cranberry, mushrooms/ earth, and dirt. Silky smooth and surprisingly gripping finish. This needs a few more years. Very impressive at this price point (I paid $35 on release).

March 6, 2015 - '05. Need I say more. When it's right, it's just right. Pretty pale magenta. Very expressive nose, darker red fruits beyond cherry, ok maybe kirsch, somehow lacquered in to make it more intense, though those words really don't make any sense. Something ineffable behind the fruit, I dunno, there's earth and an almost vinyl-like but at the same time appealing and not chemical or artificial flavor. Wish I could put my finger on it, but I feel like Tantalus and it's just beyond my grasp.

Beautiful ripe red fruits in the mouth, exploding berries, perfectly balanced. Good to go.

February 19, 2015 - To paraphrase DeNiro or pre- hipster Brooklyn, "Fuhgedaboutit." After an encouraging look at a vibrant medium red/ color, the absence of any nose did not deter hopes for this wine to have unfolded more than it had two years ago. Instead of developing more fruit and complexity, and curing the mid- glass fall off back then, this wine never opened. An absence of fruit, matched by a tiny fleeting berry taste, with no nose. Even after decanting part of the bottle, an hour brought forth nothing but a little increase in corps. And it was not in a dumb stage. So while I acknowledge the small possibility that a PV will develop further, I would suggest holding for 3 years or using now for boeuf bourgignone.

(Chandon de Brialles Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru "Ile des Vergelesses") Many 2005's are shutting down and showing awkwardly right now but after significant aeration they let you see a glimpse of the greatness. This had great depth and a fantastic midpalate. Crunchy red fruit and lots of spice, leather and earth. Thick and suave but with Grand Cru grip and finesse. This is a 20 year wine. Think I need a couple bottles of this. Love the style here of aggressive and sauvage wines based on finesse.
