September 10, 2020 - Phenomenal. Served blind. Thought Northern Rhone. Spice. Pepper. Barnyard. Soy Sauce. Lots of saddle leather. From SJW

October 3, 2015 - Iberian Wine Dinner (Milford, CT): A lovely surprise. The only other Janus I had was the 1994, and that one seemed very ripe and vanilla-laden. This was much smoother, elegant and poised. Not sure if it was the vintage or the extra time in the bottle that made this a more refined wine. The fruit is still robust, but the structure is silky, giving just the right amount of lift. A nice variety of flavors here, like olive tapenade, leather, plums and spice. Yummy and savory.

October 3, 2015 - Iberian dinner (Milford, CT): Really loved this. Lots of fresh red and dark fruited flavours framed by tobacco, earth, and cedar, with a high toned spiciness on the nose. So easy to drink with a graceful, polished palate presence, a bit of grainy tannin on the back end but most of the structure here coming from the acidity, which keeps it so fresh and lively.

June 3, 2013 - 2013 Wine Media Guild dinner (SD26, NYC): Tasted at the end of a long night when my palate was tiring, but I think I still had a beat on this one. Lots of black olive on the nose and some cassis. Musty. Clips off at the midpalate, and the texture is a bit unctuous. Sour finish. A disappointment.

May 23, 2013 - Vega Sicilia Unicos + more (The Modern): An ex-bodega bottle. Very musty when first poured, like old library books. That blew off a bit, and it showed a lot of cedar and pencil lead, almost like a left-bank Bordeaux. Quite mature and tertiary, the blackish fruit is in the background here and the remaining structure cuts the finish just a bit. Mid-weight and more elegant with lots of acid, a different style from the Unicos tasted next, but without their power or longevity. Good but I think this might have been better several years ago and it suffered bit from the comparisons in this lineup.
