February 18, 2024 - PnP. A generous effort in terms of fruit and structure yet it is well balanced by plenty of fresh acidity. Very enjoyable today and even better by the second and third glass, yet there's such a story to be told here that only some more cellar rest will reveal the greater scope of this delicious effort. I'll look to enjoy my remaining bottles 2028 and the decade that follows. highly recommended

February 7, 2024 - Wednesday Nebbiolos (Gino's, Portland OR): So, we had ordered the 06 of this and they gave us the 16 instead (thankfully they charged us the right amount). Funny how a minor accident can lead to something so beautiful. There is a real lush quality to the fruit along with the nose showing off a lot of perfume and nuance to the tones of tart red cherries, licorice, raspberries, crushed rocks, violets, wild flowers, purple fruits, bright red fruits, red berries, and sweet tobacco notes. The Full bodied feel is vibrant and balanced with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The structure is youthful, but it hasn't gone into a shut down stage and it isn't too overbearing. This is still clearly young, but it's also really friggin good. This is a straight up sexy Barbaresco that will age gracefully for many many years.

December 6, 2023 - 4 hour decant. Consumed with hanger steak and glazed shiitake mushrooms.

    Polished. Spicy. A bit premature.

In contrast to the 2016 Gallina, this is much more austere. It is lovely and I'm sure it will be great on a few years, but it isn't singing yet.

This is a more masculine expression of barbaresco without being full iron fist barolo. There are cherries and spices and flowers. In particular there was a nice menthol note and some pleasant earthiness. The tannins are still pretty aggressive and the acidity is crisp. The overall impression is quite youthful. No oak for me but a bit modern.

I'll be interested to see where this goes but probably won't open the next bottle for 2 to 3 years minimum.

    February 26, 2023 - 2016 Cantina Del Pino
    Barbaresco Albesani. Alc 14%

    Clear ruby color
    Macerated fruit on the nose
Beautiful violets and tar and tart strawberry. Chewy texture with some brambles
    Still moderate tannins

    Youthful but excellent
