February 12, 2024 - Another beautiful example of the aging abilities of some of the great California wines. This is still very rich in fruit and has lots of melted terroir interlaced within every sip. The fruit compote is cut with bright acidity that keeps the finish going on and on and on. I dont think that this is going to get better, but the barnyarded and wild notes in the bouquet have this hanging right where age marries with lipstick and creates something sexy, exotic, and unreplicably beautiful. All the French chest pounding is actually well deserved here. DRINK

February 5, 2024 - Dinner with my friend Jim Hays in Menlo CA, I brought this one to the restaurant. Splash decanted there, drank over an hour.

Medium/dark ruby/purple. Nose of dark fruit, leather, graphite. Palate of black cherry, plum, cedar. Elegant and silky texture. Medium body, long finish.

Better showing than last bottle (2018), more depth and expressive fruit. Aged nicely, drinking well but not likely to improve much from here. WOuld drink remianing bottles over the next 5 years.

January 18, 2024 - 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Retrospective (Omaha, NE): Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #1 had great color, was developing, and probably the earthiest of the group but still had a lovely fruit profile. A really nice balance of fruit and non-fruits. Robust structure. Notably, this was the only bottle in the flight that had Brettanomyces…and while I found it to quite charming, this is what ultimately got me hung up on whether I thought this was the Dominus or the Monte Bello. Ultimately I called the later. I really dig this and wish I could afford more Dominus in my life. Drink now and through 2035.

November 5, 2023 - Possibly corked - nose certainly felt so, palate not so much so wasn’t terrible but down the sink it went .
