Community Tasting Notes 2

    October 29, 2018 - 12,5% alcohol.

Moderately translucent black cherry color with a rather evolved mahogany hue and a wide, clear rim. The nose feels rather pungent, oxidative and somewhat aldehydic with tertiary aromas of rancio, some stewed plums, a little bit of beef jerky, a hint of sappy greenness and a touch of mocha. The wine is ripe, silky and quite aged on the palate with tertiary flavors of tangy aldehydic salinity, some soy sauce, a little bit of tart lingonberry, light smoky tones and a hint of meaty umami. Although the fruit is getting quite dead at this point, the structure is still there with the high acidity and firm, moderately grippy tannins. The finish is quite grippy with medium-long flavors of beef jerky, some tart lingonberry, a little bit of tangy aldehydic salinity and green apple tones and a hint of coffee.

A Ferrando Carema well past its peak. The structure hasn't resolved much, but the flavors have withered away long time ago and quite a bit of oxidation has taken place. This wine should've been consumed more than a decade ago. Not rated because the wine is pretty flat at this point and not what it is supposed to be like. Apparently not all Carema wines are meant to be kept for this long.
