August 17, 2011 - Deep ruby red. Crushed raspberry, spice, and leather nose. Medium bodied, red cherries and cranberries explode on the palate, dark chocolate, fennel, with good acid, a bit of tea, sweet tannins, and a long finish. Find it, buy it, drink it, love it.

February 1, 2011 - This is a beauty. Dark garnet in color with aromas of black fruit, plum, rose hips, crushed rock and flint. Full body with sturdy acidity backing up this beast. Quite bold with crunchy black fruit and cranberry. Excellent acid and tannin intermingling with fruit. A blend of old world and new world characteristics. Fantastic wine.

By Christie Dufault, ACWP
December 15, 2010 (link)(Yorba Barbera, Amador County) In 2003, vineyard manager Ann Kraemer (known to have walked, worked, and consulted on more celebrated California vineyards than any other woman) saw the potential of the Sierra Foothills and planted her vineyard at Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County. Today, rock-star and renegade winemakers alike buy grapes from her, but she also makes scrumptious wines under her own label, Yorba. The 2007 Barbera is a bright, medium-bodied, blue-toned wine with elevated acidity and hints of exotic spice. It thrilled me with its capacity to be savory, lively, balanced, and a tremendous value to boot. 425 cases produced. Hot Picks
