Sommelier Journal

  • By Christie Dufault, ACWP
    December 15, 2010 (link)

(Yorba Barbera, Amador County) In 2003, vineyard manager Ann Kraemer (known to have walked, worked, and consulted on more celebrated California vineyards than any other woman) saw the potential of the Sierra Foothills and planted her vineyard at Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County. Today, rock-star and renegade winemakers alike buy grapes from her, but she also makes scrumptious wines under her own label, Yorba. The 2007 Barbera is a bright, medium-bodied, blue-toned wine with elevated acidity and hints of exotic spice. It thrilled me with its capacity to be savory, lively, balanced, and a tremendous value to boot. 425 cases produced. Hot Picks
