Monday, October 21, 2013 - A blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc produced by Col Solare, a collaboration of the Italian Antinori and the Washington wine giant, Chateau St. Michelle. The wine is opaque garnet with a nose of cassis and cedar. In the glass, the wine is fruit-forward, medium to full bodied with the same cassis and pronounced cedar, oak, blackberry, kirsch and hints of vanilla and leather with a minute-plus finish. Has the tannic backbone to age at least another five years, but is delicious now with an extended decant. In fact, you'll want to give the bottle at least two hours of air to dissipate the powerful aroma and of flavor cedar. A marvelous New World take on Bordeaux and at around $40 per bottle, it has outstanding QPR. Addendum, 24 hrs of air imparts aromas and flavors of black olives and the tannins begin to soften. Definitely, a candidate for the cellar. Multiple bottles tasted with consistent notes.

10/22/2013 2:52:00 PM - This wine remains enigmatic to me. I am glad you found it enjoyable. I suspect this has morphed into a fruit forward wine for good. I must have caught it at the peak of its substantive liveliness at the winery in 2012. It now drinks like the soft 2008 vintage.
