Wednesday, November 2, 2022 - Tasted in a arrivage tasting of all DRC 2019. Overall, the 2019s DRC are beautifully perfumed, very ripe wines, but they also carry a nice vein of acidity that is making them brighter and fresh. The bottles show incredible class, but also a certain ripeness that might be something that needs getting used to for purists. I thought that the terroir was showing beautifully, despite the ripeness of the year. The wines seemeed very different and true to their cru, especially at the beginning of the tasting and again with quite some air. In between the differences were just a tiny bit muddled.
Superbly deep, layered, complex and just overall an incredibly unique wine. Very perfumed, ripe dark red fruit, also some dark minerality, plum, balsamic notes, rose petals, licorice, some spices, flowers and herbal notes too. It‘s full-bodied, dense and authoritative, with depth, pretty high tannin and acidity, that will require some time to integrate, but there is more than enough complex fruit to absorb the structure. A great wine that will only need time, too back I probably won‘t ever taste it again. It was so fascinating to taste this next to the Romanée-Conti, this was more structured, bigger and richer, while RC was more elegant, full of finesse and class. They are both equally compelling and pretty much as good as wine gets for me.
