Saturday, January 7, 2023 - The recent (bretty) ‘13 I had over Xmas prompted me to check in on this bottle. Sad to see some of the same initial horsey barnyard notes. Blew off after a while and had more of a core of tangy fruit than the ‘13. Every time I looked the horse was less and less noticeable, more powdery, mushroomy, earthy. Faint sense of dustiness on the palate and sort of sandy, spicy tannins. Really bright sour cherry, very Burgundian. Threshold brett imparts that sort of sweet and sour profile but doesn’t strip fruit too much here thankfully. I’ve had enough foillard now to confidently say bottle variation plays a big part.
