92 Points

Sunday, February 12, 2023 - Double-decanted and followed over two nights.
First time having this chateau's wine, and it was a real pleasant surprise.
Lots of clay (terra cotta) notes, with a mixture of red (cherry) and blue fruits (blueberry) and some subtle smoky oak notes (coal fire). Surprisingly (!) strong acidity, which was my only reservation in this wine, but I think it might integrate in time. Very soft texture, no harsh tannins (but maybe the soft tannins mean this is not a long ager?) An under-the-radar producer to watch out for for sure ... Rating: 92+

2/12/2023 6:22:00 AM - Wow very surprised by this note. I have been buying this producer for years (it was my intro to wine) and it usually is very tannic and takes many years to integrate. I still can’t drink the ‘15’s and my 2019s went straight to the offsite.
Your note is a little worrying as this is meant to be a long ager and the lack of tannins seems strange. I have to admit besides a collection of en premier wines I have not tasted many ‘19s, so perhaps it is the vintage?

2/12/2023 7:23:00 AM - This was a wine whose structure seems built upon its acids rather than its tannins (although there are some tannins of course). The acidity is very pronounced and fresh (which seems to be a 2019 thing), although it integrated a good bit on day two (I always decant and sample young BDX over several days). I feel like this wine could age a long time and really improve, but I had a question mark as it is a new producer for me. I was surprised at its modest oak, as the previous reviews suggested it would be a very oaky wine. Glad to have a few more for the cellar, and will let rest age at least 10 years if I can. Cheers

2/12/2023 7:30:00 AM - Thanks for checking on out it! It has always been very oaky, but I have heard this might be shifting a bit in recent vintages. Now I am curious. The 2019 is buried but maybe I will try a ‘16 soon
