  • Dense, though a bit hesitant in the beginning. Tobacco, leather, chocolate. A big potential and enjoyable in about 10-15 years (as usual).

  • Haut-Marbuzet's 2019 iteration is a deep ruby blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Sampled over a three hour period from a bottle that had been decanted through a Vinturi aerator, it continued to improve aromatically throughout the entire tasting interval. Serving up a bouquet of black currants, Bing cherries, violets, pencil shavings and Asian spices, it is a medium-to-full-bodied, fresh wine with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), plentiful polished tannins and oak that is close to fully assimilating. The flavors mirror the aromas, adding notes of tobacco and loamy earth. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is a delicious Saint-Estèphe that will very likely deserve a higher score once the wood has fully integrated. The structure is in place for it to easily celebrate a joyous twenty-fifth birthday. Drink 2025-2044.

  • Dark reddish purple in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, tobacco, herbs, spices, coffee, minerals, & cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & a hint of oak. Lingering finish. Drink well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging.

  • Double-decanted and followed over two nights.
First time having this chateau's wine, and it was a real pleasant surprise.
Lots of clay (terra cotta) notes, with a mixture of red (cherry) and blue fruits (blueberry) and some subtle smoky oak notes (coal fire). Surprisingly (!) strong acidity, which was my only reservation in this wine, but I think it might integrate in time. Very soft texture, no harsh tannins (but maybe the soft tannins mean this is not a long ager?) An under-the-radar producer to watch out for for sure ... Rating: 92+
