Powerful in all regards. Robust bouquet, featuring effusive blackcurrant (typical), blackberry, with blueberry top notes (the latter two typical of excessive ripeness or manipulation, neither is the case here, or extraction, which is). Strong expression of Left Bank terroir, shading toward Saint-Julien...yet wholly Haut-Médoc...along with distinct Cabernet Sauvignon markers. Merlot, apparently forty percent of the assemblage, takes a back seat...on the bouquet and palate.

Strapping, robust, and downright gripping...particularly at the middle to back transition, and at the back...which is where the greater-than-necessary extraction is confirmed. Imperceptible 13.5 abv. Oak...a touch too heavy...will likely fully integrate. Tasting alongside the more classically styled Cantemerle reveals the heavy-handed touch of modernity (the blasted international style...if you will).

Still young, strikingly so. Likely to continue evolving for at least seven years, perhaps ten. Then...who knows!? Heavily extracted wines tend to through a lot of sediment and lose character in the process. Recommend checking in on bottles over the next three to five years...to see which way this turns. All elements other than extraction...a stunner. The extraction, however, remains a variable that could turn this relatively pedestrian by 2032-3035.
