1 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Similar aromas as last bottle (notes on 12/12/18..graphite, tar, etc.) but much more muted. Palate: Very soft tannins in the 5+ years sideways in the cellar with black fruits, graphite but now with an elegant, medium finish. The tannins are very soft but that should not disuade you from decanting as upon pop and pour this was still closed. A slow ox might do the trick, but decanters recommended. Given the evolution my last bottle will only go 2-3 years max before consumption. Now 91+ points.

Deep red - amazing how well it has aged. Bright plummy flavours with fine tannins. Really nice finish and enjoyable one. Nice to see this settle down and showing really well. Should be good for another decade.

This is on the cusp of maturity, with some slight meaty tones but still the dry juniper laden black fruit. I think these would be best left alone for a few years to fully come into the secondary window.

Tasted over two days. Primary aromas/flavours; black fruit. Not much developed. Coarse tannins, good fruit concentration. Medium+ finish. A very good wine, but lacks a bit to be outstanding. I'm not sure the tannins will soften. Balance?
Deep purple with garnet red rims. Lots of black and blueberry complex roasted nots with some sweet spices. Full bodied with ripe tannins and very good length

Commanderie Event: Sociando Mallet (Minikahda Club, Mpls): Very dark red/purple color. Brief double decant. Drank a glass over 2 hours. The nose is open with deep aromas of ripe cassis and creme de cassis, minerals, menthol. The palate is comes off fairly astringent and structured at this point, plenty of fruit lurking in the background and it slowly unfurls over the evening. 91-92pt potential.

Decanted about an hour in advance, but it needed another hour to come into focus, and cover over the still powerfully tannic backbone. More complex, less luscious, than the last bottle over 3 years ago now. But overall not as compelling as it was then. I am reminded of some other mid-quality clarets I owned that were a bit muddled around 12 years old and took a bit longer to reinvent themselves.

Pulled the cork on the bottle accessed by Coravin in February.
Showing considerable modern flare, particularly in extraction, the wine retains its Left Bank soul, in bracing style. Blackcurrant, pepper garden, discarded railroad tie, deciduous forest sous-bois, black farm soil, intriguing funk, gravel, and mineral ores in spades. Juicy, somewhat heavy (extraction), decidedly gripping, complex finish.
No less than a decade from peak, yet worth checking in on now. Wines in this style sometimes throw considerable sediment after fifteen to twenty years from vintage date, then turn relatively pedestrian. This wine, however, I would wager will hold form through 2030, and beyond. The next three to five years will reveal much.

I like this much better than the Chateau Gloria from the other night. It has a nice flora, graphite, plummy nose. Black fruit, plums, dark slightly tart cherry palate with a black tea/leather/tobacco finish. It pairs really nicely with the Mother’s Day ribeye steaks that my husband made. A really nice $50 QPR
Popped and poured. Very attractive, enjoyable wine. Dark red with a red rim and good viscosity. Fine mulberry fruit with red currant, and touch of iodine and iron. Plump and flavorful. This has good presence, rich and balanced, with good structure. This is open for business, and decanting would likely make it even moreso. Has plenty of structure, fruit and acid to age for another two decades or more, easily. Not the most complex wine in the world, but further age might solve that "problem." 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

First bottle in 3 years, 3rd of my case buy back in '17. Cellared since then. Decanted for 3 hours before taking to the table tonight. Nose slightly closed on opening with a strong herbal/floral Cab Franc note to it. Three hours later, after the decant, that was gone replaced by cigar box and dark red/black fruit. This evolved into cherry throughout the next 3-5 hours. Graphite and spice continued throughout. A tad of tartness persisted on the finish. Some grip remained to the tannins at the table but lessened by the end of the night. 92 early and 93 by the end to me. This one seems to be evolving nicely and I'll try the next bottle in another 2-3 years.
Coravin access. Healthy pour. Tasted alongside the same vintage Cantemerle.
Powerful in all regards. Robust bouquet, featuring effusive blackcurrant (typical), blackberry, with blueberry top notes (the latter two typical of excessive ripeness or manipulation, neither is the case here, or extraction, which is). Strong expression of Left Bank terroir, shading toward Saint-Julien...yet wholly Haut-Médoc...along with distinct Cabernet Sauvignon markers. Merlot, apparently forty percent of the assemblage, takes a back seat...on the bouquet and palate.
Strapping, robust, and downright gripping...particularly at the middle to back transition, and at the back...which is where the greater-than-necessary extraction is confirmed. Imperceptible 13.5 abv. Oak...a touch too heavy...will likely fully integrate. Tasting alongside the more classically styled Cantemerle reveals the heavy-handed touch of modernity (the blasted international style...if you will).
Still young, strikingly so. Likely to continue evolving for at least seven years, perhaps ten. Then...who knows!? Heavily extracted wines tend to through a lot of sediment and lose character in the process. Recommend checking in on bottles over the next three to five years...to see which way this turns. All elements other than extraction...a stunner. The extraction, however, remains a variable that could turn this relatively pedestrian by 2032-3035.
4th Saturday Group (S&J's): Double blind. Black fruit, plum, earth, clay and spice aromas. On the riper side of the spectrum. Abundant dark fruit on the palate. Full-bodied with medium tannins. Slightly austere. (R&D)

Pleased with this bottle. Tons of flavor yet still a touch tight. I wish I had decanted more than hour. Tannins are a bit rough yet there is plenty of fruit to keep things in line. Will try others in 2-3 years.

Lovely maturity and drinking so well now. Classic Bordeaux where the Cabernet dominates. Great complexity and balance with lovely fruit and soft tannins. This is what good, mature Bordeaux is all about.

Pop and pour. Bought a few years after release from a good retailer. Stored in a 56 degree cellar since. Verdict is to give this more time. The stuffing is there, but the oak needs more time to integrate, as it is overwhelming the fruit now, on both the nose and the palate. Fruit is on the darker end of the spectrum for Sociando.

I gave this bottle a double decant and let it breathe for a while before serving. The cork was sound and there was only minimal sediment. The wine opened up nicely over both Day 1 and 2 with a balance of good remaining fruit and maturity. It was very enjoyable. IMHO it is in a good place now but should easily last several more years.

Very dark dusty plum colour. Starting to show a bit of age on the rim. Classic old school Bordeaux nose of black currant, plum and pencil shavings. Perhaps a touch of fennel too? Medium bodied, nicely balanced, quality juice. Palate follows nose. Moderately long finish. Smooth and ready to drink now.

Another excellent bottle. Rich and full bodied. Blackcurrant, leather, tobacco, but well integrated. Reminded me of a classified St. Julien. No hurry, I think.
This is my favorite wine. Very short decant this time. It's a whole new experience. I felt a new world wine style. It was spicy, rich and smooth. Tannic and full bodied. After opening, the familiar Sociando came back. Blackcurrant, leather, tobacco. All excellent.

Just super - blackberry, gravel, clay; a traditional, masculine nose, almost Baron-like. This isn’t quite ready yet but from 2025 on, it should do what Sociando always does, providing a high-quality, classically-styled experience at a fair price.

Solid value bordeaux. Two hour decant paired with fried chicken and tenderloin. Mouthfeel, taste, structure, finish...what's not to like? 2010 is great vintage. Too bad this is the last bottle in my cellar, and now I only have 2016 SM. I am Planning to buy more vintage 2010 before the price increase.

Opened last night. Very good. Dark red color to the rim and firm red legs suggests this is still a baby. But with aeration, it is drinking nicely. Good mix of red and black fruit in the nose, with a whiff of licorice. Nice mouthfeel, chewy but not tough. Plenty of fruit for the still-present tannin. This is a nice foursquare wine with good flavor and power, even though it may not ever approach the complexity of some other wines in this vintage. Very good QPR wine. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.
A very good vintage of Sociando-Mallet. Has gorgeous rustic nuances on the nose, with leather, forest floor and garrigue, with fruit flavors that lean toward the black end of the spectrum, cassis and blackberry. The palate is deceptively red-fruited, with lovely berry and red plum flavors. Complex and quite interesting. Better in 10 years.
Decanted 45 min, finished within 2 hours. Ripe dark fruits. Intense oak flavours, dark chocolate, heavy weighted ripe tannins, big structure. A little black tea and bitterness in finish. Very good weight and power, a great vintage, highly extracted, but less fineness in details.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Haut Medoc (@ RW): Beautiful and deep bouquet with dark berries, vanilla and cigar box. On the palate red berries, but still locked. A lot of acidity and tannin. Will improve over the next 5 – 10+ years. 90 - 92

Really dark- almost black. Clear blackcurrant on the nose, pencil, somewhat closed. Smooth at the start, evolves with berries in the middle, integrated and soft tannins, long aftertaste. I will wait at least five years to open the next. Probably at the peak around 2030. 89 points today - 92 in 2030.

Minimal bricking, deep crimson, with blue and purple hues.
Dark blue and purple fruit notes, plum, blueberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, etc., and raw root vegetables, beets and purple carrots. Also showing pepper garden, drying tobacco, worn leather, briar patch, spice, gravel, and muddy black earth, with wafting hints of blue and purple berry liqueurs.
Intense attack, quite inky. I was surprised to see that Petit Verdot is not part of the assemblage. Gripping and expansive middle, tannic, somewhat excessively gritty back, powerful finish.
The wine held together well over both days, marginally better on the second. Strikingly young! If blind, I would have put this as a 2014 Left Bank wine. Too powerful for 2012, too strapping for 2015, and too substantive for 2016.
There is a downside: extraction. This hallmark of modernity detracts from an otherwise exceptional wine. Much of the extraction will integrate, though not all. Expect heavy sediment after another five years or so (decant).
Overall, a stellar value, and I am glad to have two more bottles. Hopefully I can keep my grubby paws off them for several years. If most of the heavy extraction integrates, it might improve.

2009 La Fleur de Boüard. Decant for 30 minutes. Beautiful Pomerol. Very nice aroma, juicy. This is definitely ready to drink. Balanced and mature. 91
2018 Chateau Grand Village. Decant for 1 hour. Strong tannins, blackberries and tobacco. High alcohol content, slightly sweet, a bit wild. It takes time to soften. This is a wine with great potential and value. 90

Cork had mold on the top and was soaked through, which worries me about the longevity of the others. The wine was totally fine though. In fact, super youthful appearance - tons and tons of life left. Very Cab heavy nose - maybe a bit green even. Very big, rustic wine - massive tannins. Big, ripe fruit (not overripe though)... Nice acidity. Only 13.5%, but full-bodied. Quite good, but not really elegant though at this point. Needs time.
Still very dark. The scent is typically dominated by the fruity and sweet rather than the woody and astringent. In the mouth, it is again the fruit that dominates - at least compared to what one usually expects from a wine from this source. It works really well with hearty food on a winter's evening. (My points are now deflated to better reflect the original scoring of Parker. This means the wine is on the border between very good and excellent.)
Had in a lineup of ‘12.’10, ‘07. This was much more open than expected. Plenty of focused structure here, but has a nice nice of leafy greens and hints of leather. Black currants and rather fine if prominent tannins. Really nicely crafted. Needs some time still

C: Dark garnet N: Creosote, oak and leather. T: Creosote, leather and toasty oak supported by black fruit set in a thick creamy texture. Ripe tannins are softened by the richness of texture, but still very youthful and vibrant. Lovely length of finish and still some way to fully evolve. I: Though still approachable now this will mature and improve over the next 5 years. 91 points

My friend Loek presented blind two wines and they were quite different. The first was spicy, a bit rough and a bit one-dimensional although showing a concentrated core; for me 91 points. The second S-M showed more refinement, lovely vanille, black fruit and bitters in the bouquet. The power, her, combined with elegance and persistence from the impressive midtaste to the finish; 93 points now, more in the future (?). The first S-M with 30 minutes in the carafe; the second 5 hours in the carafe. There was, two days later, a kind of 3rd version. The remaining glass of the 5 hours version was, after two days in the fridge, even a tad better. Conclusion: sometimes Sociando is (and stays) a bit rough and chunky, always reliable, but handle this wine with care and lots of air and you can become rewarded and you maybe encounter the iron fist in the silk glove.

Served blind, I almost fell in the new world wine trap this wine was so rich thick and unctuous. Tannic and full bodied, it is hard to discern any notes at the moment it is so young. Once unveiled, I was blown away that this was over a decade old Sociando. There is so much upside here. Perhaps their best vintage in my opinion since their stellar 1996. Wait until 2026 and enjoy over the following 2 decades. Such a reasonable producer where they have literally kept their prices almost intact over the past 25 years. Can’t praise them enough.
55% CS, 40% M and 5% CF. A little oak on the nose, but mainly brambly fruit at first before the blackcurrant kicks in, with a hint of sea spray at the end. The attack is fairly dense, lots of thick blackcurrant, with at this stage, only a modicum of a middle section leaning towards some cooler dark cherry, before quite a rich, hot finish. Still very primary, quite tannic, but accessible, this is plusher than I expected, probably the richest SM I've tried at ten years after the vintage. No worries - it is still very much a SM, even if there is no green bell-pepper - the acidity keeps the rich texture under control.
In the context of the vintage, this compares well to its peers - the fruit is purer and less spicy - it is certainly the best I've had from Haut-Médoc so far, including all the CCs. For hardcore fans of SM, it is a little different - this is not at all like the green 2000, for example. In style, very much a Pauillac - reminiscent of Duhart. I admired rather than liked it for now but it should be much better with another five to ten years.
I love this. Super dense, immense concentration. More towards the dark fruit spectrum. This will age for a very long time still, while being enjoyable in an early phase now!

Opaque ruby. Classic left-bank Bordeaux nose with intense cassis. Medium-plus bodied, plush and mouthfilling, the cassis fruit still tight on the midpalate, fine-boned tannins, some baking spices, good concentration and length. In the midlife stage at present without much tertiary development, hold on for another 10 years. 55% CS, 40% Merlot, 5% CF.
1st Feb 2021 Last bottle in collection. Decanted in bottle for 20mins. Colour is still strong and deep claret; not much legs. Nose has a hint of fruit. First mouthful delivered a balanced and well made wine. It is medium to slightly full-bodied and the finish drags to entice another mouthful. Patience paid off handsomely, we worry the cellar time.
Really hasn’t changed that much since the last bottle. Still rich, sweet and savoury waves of dark forest gateau fruit, powdery tannin and fresh palate with a long finish. I’ve gone long on these and am very happy with my position. Think these will go for decades.

Continuing on with 2010 week we come to this. Very dark and inky mulberry purple with very little thinning at the rim. Powerful nose of mulberry, raspberry, blue plum, drowned campfire, pencil shavings with extra graphite, slight camphor and a touch of dried herbs as well. Medium full bodied, lots of fruit extract, still some unresolved oak, noticeable fine grained tannins, and good supporting levels of alcohol and acid. Lots of elements there to work with but in need of quite a bit more time to knit together. The flavours are plentiful dark purple and black mixed berries, strong black tea, crushed chalky stone, cedar mulch, a touch of iodine and a pleasant astringency on the long, dry, tart finish. This is a real powerful baby of a wine! I can't wait to try this again in about 5 or 6 more years! By then it should have settled down a bit. A diamond in the rough! 92 points now with lots of upside potential!
Second Sunday Group: 2010 Bordeaux (aka Bal Masqué) (R&D's): Double blind. I am immediately smitten by the bouquet with its black fruit, bell pepper, greenish herbal elements (I knew right away Domino and I would be at odds with this one) and a pretty floral violet top note. Full-bodied and bordering on austere on the first pass, with a dominant black currant flavor. Comes together nicely with air with mixed red and black fruits and herbal overtones. Seamless; balanced. Lingering finish. Loved this and thought it was either Napanook or Tanbark (Togni).
It's about 18 months since I previously had one, and it has now really come into drinking. Previously the backbone was still a bit prominent, but no longer. And the huge luscious fruit is doing its thing. To be sure, I did double-decant it (poured into one container and then another) about 4 hours before drinking, and it was even better the next day, so clearly still has some legs to keep it going. As others say, years to go yet. Was very well appreciated by guests.

Give this plenty of air time. Very classic in style, big acid, earthy peat, aromas and flavors, dry black cherry fruit, long mineral finish. Really showed its best on day three. Drinks above its price level. Loved it.
Totally 'à point'. Beautiful classic Bordeaux from a great vintage, great balance and purity. No vegetal notes nor dry tannins. All perfectly smooth. Drank over a couple of days with Coravin. Cru Classe level wine.
Vinturi aerated with a 2 hour decant. A compelling nose of strawberry, blackberry and apricot with some vegetal hints in the background. Smooth and full bodied. More vegetal notes on the palate with fruit unfortunately muted. Short drying finish. Just an ok wine at this stage that I was expecting much more from. May need more cellaring. Revisit in 3-4 years.
2.5 years since my last bottle and this one is a point better now. A soft feminine BDX wine.....no green pepper notes now. Notes pretty much as last time......best at 1-3 hours, a little tart and astringent after that so enjoy earlier.......
Lovely............. 4 hour decant and not too warm when served 14/15 degrees so got to see how it opened up more in the glass as it warmed a little more. Served with traditional English roast beef, Yorkshire puds and all the trimmings. Lots of (the usual left bank) fruit and plenty of structure and depth. The finish is getting longer and longer and as I sit writing this, it is still gently evolving in the glass. I've kept a third of the decanter (popped back down into the cellar) to see what happens in 24 hours so will post a comment tomorrow.
This is bottle number 4 out of my case with the last one opened in 2018. The first two were typical young SM and had a good go at stripping the enamel off my teeth. Number 3 was good and showed great promise (posted on that one) but this is the first great one, albeit still very young and at the start of the window in my opinion. Don't be in a hurry with SM is the morale of the story.
Gave a 93 but I think this will improve much more and here's to the next 8 over the next ten years or so (if I can keep my hands off them).
Note added too after 24 hours. I could smell the fruit as soon as I opened the decanter. This was just as nice after 24 hours, tannins like velvet and some interesting chocolate notes as well. A belter as they say!

The nose: Black fruits, cedar, licorice and spices
Hints of ripe black fruits, cassis, spices, some tobacco and anise....and dried tomatoes. The tannins calm down after a couple of hours. The wine is well balanced plenty of savory flavors and a nice long woody finish.
You hardly ever go wrong with a Sociando, always a good QPR, although I feel prices of this wine has gone up over the last 10 years (BE).
Drinks nicely now, but has potential to keep for another decade.

Had a glass on Wednesday and then it sat corked in my cellar for 48 hours. It held up beautifully. Anise, cedar, and black fruit on the nose. The same flavors in the mouth, but a nice savory note is added. Some woody tannins come out on the long finish, but they are in the background. Quite excellent.

Mouldy cork and a tad musky initially. After that a beautiful nose of cassis and tobacco. Red currants and chocolate coming through. Classic in style but perhaps not as traditional as I was expecting with the ripe fruit from the vintage obvious. Liquorice dominant as it opened up. Took 4 hours in a decanter to fully reveal itself. Became more classic and tannic as the evening wore on. Day 2 of what was left - surprisingly raspberries & blackcurrants come through and the tannins much more in the background. This will definitely appeal to those who prefer more traditional Bordeaux (as I do) but it didn't wow me.
Fine Wines SG - Bordeaux 2010 vs 2011 BYO (Fine Wines SG): Deep purplish pink, and thick. Subtle greenish nose, even slightly herbal. Some tannins, green fern, blackberry, hay and some graphite. Straight and upfront, but pretty pleasant
Very good and classic Bordeaux with 55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot and 5 % Cabernet Franc; excellent nose with some cassis, plum, tobacco, licorice. On the palate seamless, lean body with a fresh core, with a nice grip and decent finish and most of all purity of fruit. Drinking really well right now to food (we served it with grilled lamb chops), but for really mature complexity I am guessing you have to wait five-ten years. For me this is what I look for in Bordeaux (as opposed to overly woody, spicy and sweet&tannic monster cabs).
Tasted over three days. Minimal bricking. Notably fresh and lifted, exceedingly so, and yet the wine has softened over the past 20 months. Tannins are better integrated too. I much appreciated the modest oak treatment. No round edges or harshness, rather impressive substance, which requires time. The wine borders on greatness now, a status which (in my view begins at 94 points) I expect it will achieve in time. A beautiful wine of an exceptional vintage. In a flight of four comparably priced, 2010 vintage mostly Bordeaux variety offerings, this stood out as the fullest and most complete. Enjoyable now after a 4+ hour decant, but why not wait a few more years? High QPR! 93-94...95?
19th July 2019 No decanting required; always a good value wine and never fails to satisfy me. This 2010 has a dark colour and a hint of berry bouquet....the body is medium and the finish is lengthy...exhibiting a balanced representation of this chateau’s style...

Opened last night. Very dark ruby. Iron and red fruit nose. Pretty tough and tannic at this tender age. Lots of fruit, but it’s hard to appreciate given how rugged the wine still is. I’ll hold off another 5 years before trying another bottle, because this has plenty of stuffing for the long term. 4-11-15-8: 88/100.
First bottle from the case. Clean and clear decant but lots of cohesive sediment left in the bottle. Colour is black cherry / deep red plum. Nose is ripe and very fresh with dominant notes of licorice / anise and then black currant berries and leaf, chalk, graphite and blackberry. Maybe a touch of cedar. Palate is mid weight and slick. Medium fruit extract, very smooth and dry, but not extra dry. Very fine tannins. Great structure! Less licorice than on the nose - more black currant berries and leaf, tart black plum and a bit of stalkiness (in a good way). Quite a lovely wine and a nice surprise that it turned out this good! Solid 92 points.

From a magnum. Opened, but not decanted, for about 45 minutes before being poured. Slightly disappointing. Nothing wrong with it, but it seemed to lack much structure or complexity. Hence the 89 point score. Most of my wine group felt it was nice, but nothing special.

Had the 1990, 2000 and 2010 side by side. All three showed very well. The 2010 was quite open and had a gorgeous freshness and balance. Perfect vintage? The 2000 was almost perfectly mature now. Tertiary aromas just starting to show and tannins have softened. Great fruit and great joy to drink. The 1990 is fully mature and has been on its plateau now for at least 8-10 years. It has tasted like this forever but surely it must be at the end of its drinking window?!? Anyway, tonight the 2000 was the wine to gulp down if you had to choose.
2 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Complex aromas of black fruits, graphite, cedar and traces of tar and fennel. Palate: Very black fruited with the graphite showing along with very primary yet supple tannins. This wine is dychotomous in that the previous reviewers illustrate that old adage that “two things can be true at once”. While there are aspects of approachability in the soft tannins there is also a very primary quality to the fruit. Enjoyable now with a big decant, but the real vexing question is when to open the next one? Depending on its evolution this could be 92 points or higher. We shall see.
My second bottle of this wine. Compared with the 2006 Château Tronquoy-Lalande. Sociando-Mallet is less tannins, softer, sweeter and younger. Really enjoyable.

An interesting review recently suggesting this was on the way out! Not in my opinion having opened a bottle for my sons 26th birthday. In fact, this is just starting to get interesting. Double decanted along with a Penfolds St Henri from the same year and a 2006 Chateau Musar. The SM has moved out of the closed stage but still has the hallmark fruit of a left bank wine. Some interesting tertiary flavours are evident and this was a really enjoyable bottle. I have a few more to go at and am in no hurry.
Mild and refine. I believe it is at the tail end of the drinking window. Probably another 1 or 2 years before it will taper off. Soft with mineral. Long finish. Good with cheese.'

Decanted 1 Hour. Full aromatic nose. Medium body, red berries on the nose. It tastes like plum and coffee in the palate. Very balance of tannins and acidity, elegant and with great length. Good to drink now. Enjoyable and affordable price.
Too few to be mentioned if nothing else this is full-bodied bottle. Right now wood hides everything that this bottle could have of good. You have to wait at least eight years from now. The best, its price at € 30.
Poco que destacar si acaso que es botella con cuerpo. En este momento la madera oculta todo lo que de bueno pudiera tener esta botella. Hay que esperar al menos ocho años desde ahora. Lo mejor, su precio de 30€.
Now this is a #Boredon't I can get behind! Strong fruit showing balanced with gentle tannins and an earthy nuance of cedar and soy. Still squarely old world but not austere or so loaded with "graphite" you feel your sifting country liquor through drywall dust.

short decant did not help as wine was pretty closed. Not getting alot other than still tannic, 88 now, hopefully my other bottles will improve with time. I would hold off drinking for a couple years.
Compared with the Jean Gautreau bottling of the same vintage, the regular Sociando-Mallet had a similar Medoc flavour profile but a lot less intense and thinner. Definitely a step down and given the relatively small price difference I'd spring for the former.
Opened last night, then finished this evening. Very dark blood-red, with a ton of red legs. Nose is chewy, chunky, dark fudge, touch of iodine. Big, somewhat tannic, substantial wine in the mouth. Still the wine is approachable, rich, chocolaty, with an undertone of vanilla. Lots of time left, not yet mature. 5-12-16-9: 92/100.

This is an extremely well made wine. It has weight, a plush dark red velvet color and texture, a floral/perfumed nose on opening that reveals quickly, green pepper, iron, perhaps some oxblood. Nice red/black fruit but it takes a backseat to the green pepper. It is smooth and deep and will only get better with time. I let it sit for 2-3 hours in the glass sipping occasionally and the green pepper did recede a bit over time. For the money this is a very nice, almost extravagant wine. Looking forward to the rest of the case over the next 10-15 years. The 90 rating is for nose and flavor only, since I am not a great fan of green pepper, but for texture, depth and quality an easy 95. Average it out to 92.5.......

Popped and poured. Very dark red. Very lovely bouquet, fragrant and fine. Iron, blood and graphite. Hints of chocolate. Still quite primary but hints at even better things to come. Chewy, chunky wine in the mouth, but smooth and supple enough to enjoy now, though it likely will get better. To me, this is always a reliable producer for a good value Bordeaux. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

Disclaimer: I enjoy bold, tannic offerings. Many who taste with me contend that I have exceptionally high tannin tolerance. In other words, Novocain-like, gumb-numbing tannins appeal to me. There you have it.
First impressions upon pulling the cork: brooding, deep blackcurrant and blackberry essences, modest oak treatment, balanced alcohol. The wine held all these elements across three days, integrating nicely as it opened. Strapping Haut-Médoc here! The wine knows exactly what it is and is happy in it. The most appealing element: a blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, and oak imparted amalgam, reminiscent of blackstrap molasses that shows on the nose, comes forward at the mid palate, and lasts throughout the finish.
Rustic yet appealing, powerful yet not over done. A treat! Time is working its magic and the wine needs more of it, no less than has already passed since its origin. It should improve thereafter. 93-94.
The vintage without faults? This wine had everything at the right place, a very good balance, superb colour, super tannins, not 'power' but 'persistence'. Wait at least 5 years.

To the eye- darkest garnet to the rim, thick viscous legs. Nose- mineral, damp cedar box, a touch of capsicum, white pepper, brooding dark red fruit, a sweet floral lifting freshness. Palate- RIPE dark fruit blueberries/mûres/cassis, I waited 2 years to try this wine so the tannins are still very present but allow for an acceptable level of drinking with refreshing acidity, peppery, extremely long, powerful but so well balanced and elegant despite its youth, AND only 13.5%(so commendable) Drank with simple braised lamb shanks I wanted the wine to shine, a delight! A star wine which I never fail to buy, always over performs. This Sociando has 15, 20, 25 years of life in it. The wine did not disappoint. Worth 5x the price. I want to give this wine a higher score but I will contain myself!

Although still an infant, the 2010 bottling can easily be pegged as an unmitigated success for Sociando-Mallet. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it is an opaque crimson elixer that brims with black and blue fruits. Accented with anise, dark chocolate, violets and pencil shavings, it is a full-bodied offering with fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (13.5%) and massive chewy tannins. Impressively dense on the mid-palate and finishing very long, this is one that will reward those with a temperature-controlled cellar and the patience to go with it. Drink 2022-2042.

Smoke, earthy and tobacco. Very young and firm. Classic cabernet sauvignon from Bordeaux on the palate. Tough and tight (because of the age) medium acid and tannins also. Could be fun to taste again in a couple of years

Dense black fruit, liquorice and coffee with beautiful cool graphite minerality on the palate. Seems immensely polished and, for all its depth of flavour, very refined and very fresh. No, this isn't quite the finished article but while it does have a grip I was surprised by how accessible the powdery tannins were given the backward reputation of both the vintage and the producer - I could easily open another. Really exceptional and pretty criminally undervalued, I would say. 94
Has a lot going on, but needs a few years in the cellar to soften up. Dense and tannic, it is deep purple and dark. The nose is one of blueberry and raspberry, violets, licorice and minerals (and play-doh?). Full-bodied and tannic, it has excellent concentration with cassis and raspberry, leather and rocks. Once the tannins soften, this will be a delicious wine. Give it 5 years minimum.

Obviously a good vintage as the fruit is very ripe and a bit sweet. Drinkable right after opening but after 6-7 days of slowox this is just great. Probably a future classic from this chateau.

Classic left bank, even if it is very young. This has it all, and such a bargain. Had it together with the 1990 which showed very well, and the differene was not 20 years...The 2010 will be the better wine.

Opaque crimson color. Subdued nose of graphite, tar and black fruit. The palate on this is also restrained, remaining quite primary. This had a somewhat bitter finish when first opened, though this dissipated with a little bit of aeration. The tannins are still tough, retaining a spicy bite. I had hoped that the Merlot would have made this accessible by its fifth birthday, but it is still wrapped up tight. Would be interested to revisit this in 5-10 years.

Outstanding. With a 55% cab sav,40% merlot, 5% cab franc, it is both aromatic with solid structure. Bare in mind I open the wine for 3 hrs before taking my first sip. Even then, it is tannic. It took another hr to mellow down and the blend shows it's true color. Dark red and full body as you swiveled in your wine glass, smells of leather, meat, cashew and dry flowers ooze out of it. Really enjoyed the bottle and will definitely improves over time. A great find and luckily I have another half dozens to savor at a later time.

Lovely lifted nose of dark fruits and tobacco. Acidity seems to be low, but prominent on the finish. Very round already, I would hope for a higher concentration. There's classical cassis and tobacco in an empty glass.

Bordeaux 2009 vs. 2010 - Check in on 50 well known Chateaux: Tasted at Wine Advocat event - A matter of taste. This is one of the most famous Bordeaux in the "value for money segment". Last vintage I had was the 2000 which should have been great but they really screwed that one up with a very strong green pepper note suggesting that the CabSav was not ripe when they brought it in. This beautiful 2010 does certainly not have this problem. Dark purple. A wonderful nose of dark fruit with some forest and earthy notes. Very tightly knit with present but very ripe tannins. This is going to be a real left bank treat in 3-5 years.

Am still wondering about the long-term potential. Nice substance, oak is noble, green peppers and smokiness. Lacking complexity though, which I like to think is solely attributable to the fact that this wine is still very young. Will revisit in 3 or 4 years to get a better idea.

Nose of vanilla and peperonis, herbaceous, hint of black fruit and smoke, a little bit restrained at this point... very fruity taste, black and red rip cherries, almost sweet, tannins completely integrated, surprizingly soft for the vintage, nice refreshing acidity... tasted initially very good, but looked pale and weak after tasting the monumental fruity 2009!!

Le Salon du Vin de la Revue du Vin de France 2012 (Brussels): Rather closed at the nose, concentrated fruit and some charcoal. Remarkable depth on the palate, lots of chewy tannins and perfectly balanced (!) with lots of acids. Classic fresh style but with concentrated ripe fruit. Great wine that probably will need at least a decade to somewhat open up.

The stuffing is there, but the oak needs more time to integrate, as it is overwhelming the fruit now, on both the nose and the palate. Fruit is on the darker end of the spectrum for Sociando.

Good mix of red and black fruit in the nose, with a whiff of licorice. Nice mouthfeel, chewy but not tough. Plenty of fruit for the still-present tannin.

Tasted over two days.

We drank 3 bottles at the BBQ.
2010 Chateau Sociando-Mallet. Decant for 1 hour. Very good! ! The quality is very stable, I will be happy to open a few more in the future. 92

C: Dark garnet
N: Creosote, oak and leather.

Colour is still strong and deep claret; not much legs. Nose has a hint of fruit. First mouthful delivered a balanced and well made wine. It is medium to slightly full-bodied and the finish drags to entice another mouthful. Patience paid off handsomely, we worry the cellar time.

Hints of ripe black fruits, cassis, spices, some tobacco and anise....and dried tomatoes.

You hardly ever go wrong with a Sociando, always a good QPR, although I feel prices of this wine has gone up over the last 10 years (BE).
Drinks nicely now, but has potential to keep for another decade.

Now this is a #Boredon't I can get behind! Strong fruit showing balanced with gentle tannins and an earthy nuance of cedar and soy. Still squarely old world but not austere or so loaded with "graphite" you feel your sifting country liquor through drywall dust.

To the eye- darkest garnet to the rim, thick viscous legs.
Nose- mineral, damp cedar box, a touch of capsicum, white pepper, brooding dark red fruit, a sweet floral lifting freshness.
Palate- RIPE dark fruit blueberries/mûres/cassis, I waited 2 years to try this wine so the tannins are still very present but allow for an acceptable level of drinking with refreshing acidity, peppery, extremely long, powerful but so well balanced and elegant despite its youth, AND only 13.5%(so commendable)
Drank with simple braised lamb shanks I wanted the wine to shine, a delight!
