Tuesday, May 23, 2023 - (KT) Late release. Re-corked in 2003.
Brick red centre with a light brown rim
PNP - high level of VA, dominant smell of mature vinegar
After 15 mins in the glass, the VA partly dissipated. It had good fruit on the palate, while being weightless and vinegarish. The finish was long and acidic.
With one hour of aeration, the wine offered up notes of pickled cherries, gentle vanilla and coffee. It retained a lovely amount of fruit and tolerable oxidation in the mouth. This was the most enjoyable stage of the wine.
From 1.5 hours onwards, the wine showed a bit of floral note, but also obviously more oxidation with more savouriness on the palate. It dropped quickly in the glass.
Overall it was an enjoyable wine but I couldn't get past the high amount of VA here.
