(KT) Late release. Re-corked in 2003. Brick red centre with a light brown rim PNP - high level of VA, dominant smell of mature vinegar After 15 mins in the glass, the VA partly dissipated. It had good fruit on the palate, while being weightless and vinegarish. The finish was long and acidic. With one hour of aeration, the wine offered up notes of pickled cherries, gentle vanilla and coffee. It retained a lovely amount of fruit and tolerable oxidation in the mouth. This was the most enjoyable stage of the wine. From 1.5 hours onwards, the wine showed a bit of floral note, but also obviously more oxidation with more savouriness on the palate. It dropped quickly in the glass. Overall it was an enjoyable wine but I couldn't get past the high amount of VA here.

From magnum. Poured out an hour before tasting. Of course this is fully mature, and a bit past its prime, but it really did drink pretty well and paired very well with food. Some slightly roasted elements on the nose, but mostly earth and mature red fruits. Nice, elegant finish. I'm probably giving it a little bit of credit for showing so well tat this age, but really did enjoy it. A-

Nose of coffee. Lovely sweet, smooth palate with some brown sugar on the finish. Seemed a little past its best to me.

Blind I would have guessed this as Musar - still full of life, medicinal and malty, but with a sweet cherry fragrance - rather lovely
