2019 Château d'Issan

Community Tasting Note

Sunday, May 28, 2023 - Decanted about 8 hours prior to consumption. A micro taste when initially popped found it quite tight. Nice dark fruits with notes of graphite and cedar. The decanting helped a good deal, even if it still showed like an infant after many hours. Purple fruited over a strongly structured core. I really appreciated the classic stylings here next to some other wines from warm vintages that were really fruit forward. In this we had an '18 LPoyferre just prior to this that was very open and fruity. It was quite the contrast which may have painted this by contrast even more structured, classic that it was. A revisit a couple hours later showed it closing down, only leaving light purple fruit left. Very nice in any case but in severe need of sleep.
