flawed

Monday, November 27, 2023 - At our annual Wine Group End of Year Lunch. This wine was horribly flawed by irresolvable sulfur levels and underlying reduction reminiscent of some years of Leflaive. There is some intense well structured fruit beneath this volcano but it takes some digging and time under Stelvin is unlikely to resolve the problem. Is this some groovy marketing trick (" all that burnt match character just like Leflaive and Coche ! "), careless winemaking or just a bad bottle ? Anyway the Meursault that followed was pristine !

11/30/2023 4:19:00 PM - Thanks for your note. While I have not tasted the 2021 yet, I tasted the 2017 a few years ago and my impression with that was similar to yours re. the 2021. I do wonder what will happen with the reduction levels, given Stelvin closure.

12/17/2023 6:00:00 PM - Thanks wizlb - I'll be interested to hear who you fare. Our experienced group of nine all found it close to undrinkable in a great group of wines. Hopefully its just a one bottle problem !
