Thursday, May 9, 2024 - This wine was and it was not filling my pre-expectations. As expected, it was displaying beautiful notes of ripe dark fruits and berries, herbs, pine-needles, tobacco, wet undergrowth and barnyard. It was much more acidic and fresh than I had expected, which was merely a good thing. However, I had expected the wine to be more fruity, thick and concentrated on the palate. Instead, the wine now made a rather medium-bodied, classical and balanced impression. This is certainly not a defect, but it is anyway a deviation from my expectations for Pegau and for Châteauneuf-du-Pape in general.
The wine is in an excellent condition right now: the tannins have resolved, but there is still plenty of nice and fresh fruit left.
