90 Points

Saturday, December 12, 2009 - shared with pat, keith and jean at selkirk manor. reading notes from other members, i decided not to wait any longer. this bottle was in good condition. good fill. cork extracted easily and intact. rich color. no browning or fading. considering the vintage, there was a remarkable amount of fruit left. pleasant nose. however, the wine is rather understated, as if it does not want to be noticed or recognized. i taste mostly plum and chocolate. the pleasure of this wine centers on its smoothness. tannins and acid are fully resolved and do not get in the way of enjoying the fruit. i thought that this was quite a respectable bottle to share with old friends until we had keith's bottle (1982 gruaud larose) which put my wine to shame. for other members who still have bottles in the cellar, i would not wait on them. especially since so many bottles have been reported to be on the cusp.
