Saturday, February 27, 2010 - This wine evolves a lot after opening it. The nose is smoky and earthy yet clean and mild, very appealing. The palate is clean and refreshing with a little tannin and great acidity. The flavors are smoke, earth, raspberry, blackberry, grape, orange, orange peel, gun powder, and stone with a spicy ripeness, and just a little soapy/bitter in that way that Italian reds can be. On the next day this wine fattens up, smooths out and the flavor is cherry with that citrus peel underneath and earth. The other things I mentioned are not as apparent but have integrated into the wine. The wine still seems complex but it is not as easy to pinpoint the individual flavors. Some may prefer this with a decant.
