Wow! This one surprised me for a $9 bottle. Kinda lost track of this last bottle and it's been sitting in the cellar for a few years. Despite the fact that this is not a wine designed for aging, it definitely picked up some interest in the years. Earthy, nutty notes, with dark fruit on the palate. Still lively and fruit forward. Great with food, especially acidic dishes like pasta with red sauce and Chicken French.

No decant, faded blueberry and graphite in the bouquet, the palate is dominated by angularity and a long tannic finish, this is an example of a Sangiovese that has passed its peak in terms of its fruit and has passed into a much more earthy stage, interesting to try and enjoyable in its own way.

Perfect little pizza wine. Some oak notes of coconut and dill but mainly earth, cherries, reduced brown sugar, dust, roses and plums. Simple sipper that was better with pizza.

Discovering Wine: The crimson wine has a medium body and noticeable brick edging. The nose is very distinctive with notes of star fruit, acrid smoke, and earth. There's a nice salinity in the mouth along with tastes of tart, red cherries. The medium length finish continues with more of the same.

Have a couple bottles of this left over from last summer. Not sure why I was dreading opening another, was pleasant enough. Nose of red fruit, cherry palate. Light to medium body, simple and one dimensional but not tart or funky. Decent. I've had much worse at $8

Don't get me wrong, for a bit over $10, it wasn't a bad deal at all. I just won't go around raving about this wine.

Not sure how much of this we have drunk but it must be 2 cases plus- very straight forward Sangiovese with cherry notes and some slight baker spice on nose with some toast notes- very smooth easy drinking wine, cherry carries through with a touch of leather and a bit of pencil shaving- If this was brought out as a house wine in Italy people would come home telling everyone how the house wine is amazing in Italy- more to the rustic side but enough fruit to keep all happy-
looking at the flaws, short finish, mild structure, acidity varies from bottle to bottle but the last 5 or 6 seemed on the low side- for under $8 or $9 this is a perfect buy- I tend to open these often when having lunch- goes great with dried meats, cheeses and bread-

smells like maraschino cherries but tastes like typical sangio dry cherries, along with some earthiness. After aeration there's a distinct funky element- the best analogy that comes to mind is a compost heap with dead leaves and maybe a few worms crawling around. On the lighter side of color and body.

Prominent cherry with oak. It tasted average out of the bottle. But after a few sips I left the bottle on the counter and my glass full and went outside to shovel. Two hours later it was great. I re-corked what was left and a few days later it was still wonderful at first pour. This paired well with my gourmet mac-n-cheese (it has 7 different types of cheese) and also with pizza. I will purchase more.

Black Cherry/Plum on the nose, starts with stiff fruit flavor and finishes weak and quick. Opens up well after 2 hours of decanting. Excellent sangiovese from Italy for the price point, nothing spectacular compared to better sangios.

Pop and pour through Nuance Wine Finer. Red color, almost ruby. Aromatic nose of cherries and some floral hints. On the palate, thin with soft tannins. Red cherries and a little strawberry. Thin and pretty tart. On its own, I'd give this an 85; however, with red sauce, it was terrific and closer to 88. So there you have it - I scored it an 86. For $8, great everyday italian fare wine. Aloha!

Not very impressive at first compared to what I expected. Very very much better on day two - you should definitely allow this wine some air before drinking it. On day two it had turned out to be very very nice indeed.

Thin red color. Red fruits, especially strawberry, spices, and chocolate on the nose, the latter of which fades fairly quickly. The chocolate and bitter red raspberry notes dominate this thin-bodied wine. Some vanilla. Spicy chocolate dominates the finish. I don't know if this is typical of Sangiovese but I am not particularly impressed.

Agree with most of the comments, one thing to add would be that it still quite young and needs to open up to show more on the nose and fruit on the palate. I had a glimpse of the future from the last glass consumed 4 days after opening, which I would rate as very good - 88

Consistent with prior tastings. I felt this Sangio offers nice mild fruit and acidity, that allows it to pair with a wide range of food. It is complimentary with cherry, a little floral on the nose and off-dry on the palate. Nice pair with pasta and meat sauce.

Very pleasing Sangio for this price point. Very pleased with the color, smooth richness of the fruit. The off-dry table red of the evening, and very nice to pair with food. Not as impressive on its own, but really sings with grilled veggies and meats. I would think this is a great match for Pizza. The fruit profile is more red berry and slightly tart, but mild. Rather short finish, but again, really nice as a table red.

Nice rich nose. I'm somehow reminded of rubber pencil erasers.
Big fruit on the front end, cherries, currant, a little must, and spice. Dry tannic finish. Perhaps a little over done, but the rest is working for me so I can ignore it.

Solid Sangiovese. Good QPR at $ 7.98/bottle. Some dark fruits and bits of cocoa on the nose. Mouthfeel ok, some mild berries and a bit of spice on the finish. Good every day "pizza and pasta wine".

Aerate to decanter, serve. Color dark dirty ruby, medium body. Initial nose is mild with strawberries and higher tone sour cherries, along with twinges of oak, sticks, and scorched earth. With air the red fruit aromas fade and darker baked black fruits emerge along with the other characteristics mentioned. Attack of black and red fruits quickly gives way to lots of dry charcoal, tobacco, earth, and a little bit of mineral. Medium-low acid, mild level of tannins, short finish. Overall rather dark and stark for me; not feeling the outstanding AG score. Value OK as it performs at its cost of 8.

Pretty tasty bottle of sangio for the price. Cherries and flowers on the nose, medium body, smooth on the palate, integrated tanins and light acidity to have with italian fare and even after. Not great but no hard edges after opening up.

OK for $8, but it smells and tastes of baked/roasted fruit and something like cheap (slightly burned) oak (even though I'm not sure if this spend some time in oak or not). After an hour in a glass it did open up somewhat and became more juicy and enjoyable.

Tastes strongly of black plums and has a hint of sweet on the finish. I picked this up as a cheap Chianti substitute, and while I would have preferred a Chianti, found this pleasant enough.

color: leathery red-purple; nose: hardly anything (sad!) - possibly a little raspberry; taste: thin sour cherry mouth feel, nothing on mid-palate, short slightly peppery finish with decent-tasting tangy tannins (the wine's top feature); overall: simple-drinking table wine that's meant to accompany pizza rather than be lingered over, reasonable QPR if it's priced under $9 -- but don't pay more than $10!

This would have been less than average if not for the low price. Found it opposite from others who have reviewed. Thought it had a nice nose when first opened with a fruit forward taste, but seemed to fade the longer it was opened. Not much of a finish at all. Surprised it rated this highly (90) with one of the major rating houses.

Red with a slight purple hue in color. Sour plum, sour cherry on the nose and palate. Slightly acidic, but nicely balanced otherwise. Not much secondary flavors and average length finish. Solid effort, good with food, good QPR for $9 at Costco.

Somewhat muted nose at first. Opened up with a few hours of air. Bright cherries and a touch of smoke on the front palate, followed by dusty earth and a soft tannins for a nice finish. Good structure and balance for a wine of this price. Got better as the night went on. Good QPR, I hope Cosco still has some bottles when I go back. You can do far worse for under $10.00

This wine evolves a lot after opening it. The nose is smoky and earthy yet clean and mild, very appealing. The palate is clean and refreshing with a little tannin and great acidity. The flavors are smoke, earth, raspberry, blackberry, grape, orange, orange peel, gun powder, and stone with a spicy ripeness, and just a little soapy/bitter in that way that Italian reds can be. On the next day this wine fattens up, smooths out and the flavor is cherry with that citrus peel underneath and earth. The other things I mentioned are not as apparent but have integrated into the wine. The wine still seems complex but it is not as easy to pinpoint the individual flavors. Some may prefer this with a decant.

PnP and dad with Pizza and it went very well. Have not had this wine in awhile, it's probably been 2 or 3 vintages. Definitely a QPR winner. Easy drinking Sango, with sour cherries, med bodied (maybe med -) not much by the way of tannins. Simple and pretty tasty. Drink em if you got em.

Deep purple color. The nose starts out with lots of earth tones that moves to ripe cranberry, raspberry and some hints of pepper as it opens up. The flavors on the palate are similar with some spiciness paired with sweet and spicy hot sausce. Well balanced and easy drinking.

The nose keeps changing on me- at first I got coffee and barn, now I am getting hints of Maraschino cherry. This wine has good balance and structure, but no predominant flavors stand out to me. A bit of dark berry, a bit of cedar, a bit of what might be tobacco (but I've never tried any tobacco product so I can't say for sure). I hate to leave a bad score since I can tell it's well made, but it's just not exciting me right now. Perhaps an awkward point in its development?
Second day: Nose is generic fruit/a hint of sawdust. The palate now has almost a syrah-like pepperiness combined with dark berries. Again, decent wine but just not doing much for my palate, and I definitely don't get the 90 WA gave it.

Classic sangiovese nose, with at times a minerality that I rarely find on reds. Dry, but solid cranberry/strawberry fruit notes. Good mouthfeel, and a bit simple taste, with the nose notes carrying over. A sweeter finish than I sometimes can get with a sangiovese, with milder tannins than can sometimes mar a good dry wine. Very good to excellent.

I just can not leave good marks for this one. It's possible I received two bottles from a bad barrel. From what I've read, many like this one. It did have the barn yard funk I'm fond of but the oak and smoke killed this one for me. No score

Dark purple colour. Big vanilla, kirsch, red licorice, maraschino cherry nose. Sweetish vanilla cherry cola entry & finish. Glyceric, bordering on cloyingly flabby. Nose is better than the finish. Very much in the international style. Decent QPR

What a huge disappointment. I'm sorry but I have to be honest. I am hoping that I received a bottle that is off the mark from its counterparts. Medium-light garnet color with aromas of dark fruit and tobacco. Great fruit upfront transitioning to tobacco and finishing with black pepper. Nice QRP. I'm getting a case of this soon. It easily matches with many foods. We had it with Balsamic and olive oil based pasta the first night and nachos the second. It paired well with both.

I re-corked what was left and a few days later it was still wonderful at first pour. This paired well with my gourmet mac-n-cheese (it has 7 different types of cheese) and also with pizza. I will purchase more.

Aloha!
