Monday, July 26, 2010 - Sourced this pretty cheaply thinking that at the least it would provide a little education/intrigue. Totally soaked cork with obvious signs of seepage. First whiff indicated that this wine was alive and well. Beautiful depth and balance on the nose-Violets,dried darker fruits of plums and prunes. All kinds of baking spices-cinnamon,cardomom,and nutmeg. Soy sauce and wet earth. Palate was just as intriguing as the nose with tons of depth=>Soy sauce, plums, smoke, dried cherries, black pepper, smoked sardines, and cured meats.
This showed well for about 90 minutes and then started to get a little out of wack on the palate. While it was clearly past prime it showed in a beautiful yet very subtle way. Kind of like watching Maddux pitch a shutout through 6 late in his career only to get pulled in the 7th after giving up 3 runs but still earning the W.
