Wednesday, June 14, 2006 - My nephew ATBridge and I tried a bottle last night to see how this was doing. We agreed it was doing very well. We decanted and drank 2/3 of the bottle for an hour. I will try the rest of the bottle today. We noticed the beautiful, dark, clear purple color immediately. With minimal airing, the nose and palate were medium but pleasant in the beginning. Sweet tannins still noticable but largely resolved. At first nose was earth, minerals, smoke and plums, and palate was minerals, graphite, figs, plums, cinnamon and baking spices. As the wine aired, sweet fruits predominated, and the palate and nose revealed more cassis, licorice and tobacco. The finish was long and minerally, almost like a white Burgundy. This wine is still young but fairly complex and enjoyable now. It would benefit from at least two hours in the decanter before drinking. A tribute to the 2000 vintage!

The following day the wine was bigger, which indicated we were right about it needing more air. We will try another bottle in two or three years!
