88 Points

Friday, February 11, 2011 - Medium ruby colour with narrow rim. Expressive nose, with wild cherries, plums, hints of violet and both sweet and pungent peppery spices. Medium to full bodied with vibrant acidity and firm but ripe tannins. Flavours are intense and lingering: cherry, plum, licorice, smoke, sweet spice and pepper. Well made wine, not yet ready to drink as with cellaring it will gain complexity and character. Great quality at a low price. For me this is an archetype of how quality Greek wines should be priced. 88 points for now, it will surely gain with time. A wine that can develop and keep for at least ten more years. [Rapsani is a blend of Xinomavro, Krasato and Stavroto - the appelation is on the slopes of Mount Olympus and potentially is one of the great and ageworthy Greek red wines as Krasato and Stavroto add mid-palate depth, body and sweetness to the rough, tannnic and acidic but very fine Xinomavro.]
