Friday, March 25, 2011 - Opened and decanted over a couple of hours. Solid, dark garnet hue without sediment in the bottle. Fruit forward with smells of dark berries, black cherries and Oak is Very detectable. This is a smooth Cab that lacked midpalate complexity or a striking finish that you would expect of a wine at this price point (bad value wine). To be honest I was disappointed in this wine and the finish was weak. I was anticipating more fullness and power like a quaility Napa or Sonoma Cab. Especially with it's high professional ratings. I have consumed two different bottles of this vintage and have had the same impression previously - nothing special (flabby). Perhaps it is declining?

PM Note: Our second bottle of the night was a 2004 Chateau St. Jean Reserve Cab which blows the Quilceda Creek away. The St. Jean has far more structure and flavors. Do not waste money on the '99 Quilceda.
