Friday, April 22, 2011 - What a pleasant surprise! I was looking for a wine to match smoked spiral ham and this certainly did that. The colour is still quite intense with only a hint of brick around the edge. The dark fruit and leather leap out of the glass and then a mineral and barnyard (manure) round out the nose. The longer the wine sat in the glass the more complex the nose became with notes of lavender and lilac The palate is fully resolved , intense red cherry fruit, what tannins remain are fully integrated, very good balanced and decent middle palate and length. It performed beyond its pedigree. This bottle had perfect cork and maybe that helped.
