Well balanced on the palate, but a slightly overcooked flavor kicks in, leading me to wonder if I'm drinking Zinfandel, but no: The acid profile is far too classy for zin. Tannins are light in the relatively short finish. This wine has an excellent Syrah nose, one of the best I have had in awhile. Must be the cool climate of Santa Ynez. According to the producer's website, the grapes were harvested at 24.5 brix, which sounds perfect, but the slightly overripe flavors in this wine, probably from a cold soak and frequent punch-downs, keep me from rating it higher. Note that 88 is in the Very Good to Excellent range.
