94 Points

Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - Popped and poured, no sediment, slightly bricked. Gorgeous nose, with sweet cedar and deep, dark fruit. On the palate, equally great - a sensation of sweetness and richness without actual sugar or heaviness, deep secondaries of leather and cigar box, but balanced with vibrant black fruit. Slight hint of mint. Finishes with a coffee and cola, and lingers on for a very long time. Smoothed-out tannins, with a balancing acidity. Drinking beautifully, probably at peak, but still very much going strong. This reinforces my claim that Rioja is one of the top-tier wine regions in the world, that Beronia's Gran Reservas are fantastic wines, and it's a screaming value, even at $35.
