Sunday, August 19, 2012 - Blackberry, cherry and cocoa on the nose. The blackberry, cherry and cranberry combo practically detonates on the palate, along with a pervasive savoury quality. Once it subsides, there's a long finish of licorice, charcoal, dark chocolate, and a more medicinal version of that ol' blackberry. It's quite acidic and has rather grippy tannins. Even running it through an aerator two days after first opening it does not calm the fruit or tannin, but it does reduce the chocolate and savoury flavors. This isn't a great wine for food, but it did go well with mushrooms.
