Endelig!

Deep red with light rim. Intense blackberry and cherry nose. Some soft licorice tones. Lots of jammy fruits on the palate. Somewhat on the fruity side. Good lenght. A bit heavy but really fruity stuff. Non- filtered and some sediments. Decant.

I consistently find that this wine needs a few years to settle down to show its best. Lots of perfume and fruit. What has changed is the sweetness seems much more in balance with the secondary flavours now, and the acidity which tasted fake to me at one point now seems natural. Has a pure "delicious" character that will make you come back to the glass without seeming soulless.

Blackberry, cherry and cocoa on the nose. The blackberry, cherry and cranberry combo practically detonates on the palate, along with a pervasive savoury quality. Once it subsides, there's a long finish of licorice, charcoal, dark chocolate, and a more medicinal version of that ol' blackberry. It's quite acidic and has rather grippy tannins. Even running it through an aerator two days after first opening it does not calm the fruit or tannin, but it does reduce the chocolate and savoury flavors. This isn't a great wine for food, but it did go well with mushrooms.

A savoury nose of of blackberries, eucalyptus and espresso notes. Unfortunately the palate is not as well orchestrated: the fruit gets a little confected, totally bulldozing the rest of the palate, some blowsy oak is evident on the finish, whilst the acid structure takes on Al Gore climate change graph proportions. In fact, this is a real mess: disjointed, saccharine and with a very unpleasant acid spike at the end. A genuine disappointment and certainly not up to the high standard set by most other d'Arenberg wines.

I'm a little torn on this wine, since I want to love its fresh violet and cocoa aromas and surprising freshness more than I actually do. It's still a little flabby and monotonously dark fruited and the acidity tastes fake right now. There is definitely a savoury quality compared to many of this wine's peers that saves it for me.

Prior to decanting, showing strength but little character, a little weedy. Once given proper time, depth richness and complexity come out in a restrained marriage between aussie exuberance and old world sensibility. Strikes a good balance between sweetness and the other elements, which can be a fault in many d'Arenberg wines over the last 10 years. I would expect this to age decently well just don't expect miracles.

Brought to a restaurant that do not have a proper glass. Only some berry and dark fruits on the nose. Good medium+ bodied, juicy wine with black berry, plum and peppery notes. Medium length finish and gripy tannins.

This was a pleasure. Nose was not what I expected. Fruit forward, but not overpowering with some dirt, leather and tobacco. Did not get the veggies taster "ethralls" noted. Taste: cherries, plums, dark fruits, muted heat and tannins. Pepper on the finish. We found it to be clearly a New World producer seeking an Old World delivery. We think they delivered.

Soft and ripe, delivering a plush mouthful of blackberry, floral, huckleberry and exotic spice flavors that linger enticingly on the open-textured finish. Drink Now. - JD90

Beautiful deep, dark color. Very obvious green peppers and veggies on the nose. Awesome mouthfeel and spice on the palate. This is smooth, rich and balanced. Came in 2nd out of 6 in Syrah and even over a Hermitage and another Rhone contender.

Crimson red colour. Plum, cherry and earth nose. Rich fruits on the palette, plums mostly. Good balance of tannins. Has aged well at 10 years.

Nice Shiraz, but still plenty of tannins & heat from the alcohol - definitely a few more years left in this.

Would benefit from at least 1 year more in the bottle. Tannins very tight and constraining the fruit.
