Monday, November 26, 2012 - Color: Very light ruby magenta. Almost pink at the edge.
Nose: The first impression is a beautiful perfume of fresh juicy red fruit (raspberries, especially), fresh cut flowers, and delicate spice. Then emerging from underneath is a nice touch of smoke, wet earth, leather, and gravel, which keep it from being too sweet. Fabulous nose for such a young wine---already inviting and complex.
Mouthfeel: Light-medium bodied, lively, and bright.
Palate: Initially very acidic, with mouthwateringly tart cranberry and sour cherry flavors. Then slightly sweet floral flavors come through, followed by tobacco leaf, a bit of dust and mineral, and some oak. The finish is tart and juicy, leaving behind cranberry, a hint of raspberry sweetness, and very light tannin.
This showed very well for an infant 2010 1er; the components are all there and it's already expressing itself. It could stand to settle down a bit acidwise, and I think more secondary flavors will emerge after the super-bright fruit recedes slightly, but I don't feel like I wasted it by opening a bottle now. That said, I'm very glad I have two more and won't be opening them any time soon.
