Thursday, June 5, 2014 - Pretty distinctive style. This one sort of sneaks up on you. As it first crosses the lips, you get the impression this is lighter style Pinot, but the palate proves that theory wrong. When pouring into the decanter, there was a very interesting combination of cigar box, roses and squeezed red raspberries. There is a creamy richness, not typical to Pinot as you swish a swallow around in the mouth. I think they used a touch of oak, and worked with the lees a little. The fruit is sharp and ripe, but not over baked. There is not a lot of structure to gain a high score, but in a simple, red raspberry meets tannin and oak with decent acidity way, we say nice job for $8
