As it first crosses the lips, you get the impression this is lighter style Pinot, but the palate proves that theory wrong. When pouring into the decanter, there was a very interesting combination of cigar box, roses and squeezed red raspberries. There is a creamy richness, not typical to Pinot as you swish a swallow around in the mouth. I think they used a touch of oak, and worked with the lees a little. The fruit is sharp and ripe, but not over baked. There is not a lot of structure to gain a high score, but in a simple, red raspberry meets tannin and oak with decent acidity way, we say nice job for $8
